Tham Wang Badan - KA0082
14.253659,99.066283
Location
The cave is 1 km from Wang Badan Ranger Station 2 km along a branch road at km 63 on the H323, near the Sai Yok Noi waterfall.
Description
A 10m ladder climb from the entrance chamber leads to the extensively decorated main chamber called Phu Mi Phrathet, an imposing 50m long, 25m wide and up to 10m high. A roomy level passage continues 100m to the north; this and the west wall of the main chamber appear to follow the regional strike of about 330¦. A hole in the east side of the main chamber descends to the stream passage at a depth of 30m and despite the presence of >5% CO2 there are persistent rumours that it can be followed for a kilometre. In 1988 a French expedition pushed 241m downstream and about 200m upstream through rockfalls with the passage continuing in 6% CO2. The stream, which contains numerous blind white fish, resurges at Sai Yok Noi Resurgence. High CO2. Is this the same cave as KA0074 Tham Sai Yok Noi? The type locality for Siamoglaris zebrina Leinhard, 2004 (Psocoptera) is 200-300m from the cave entrance.
