Description
A collapsed, 10 mto 15 m deep closed depression, which resembles in ground plan a boomerang with two 30 m long wings, lies in a bamboo grove in the jungle of the Krang area on the eastern side of the Shnongrim ridge. The impenetrable sink down there is said to drain to –>Wah Ralo (Mulda Rupon 2001.02.18, personal communication). ETYMOLOGY: The Synteng -Krem Wah Paupau- possibly means Cave [on the] Seeming / Apparent Stream as the Khasi verb -páw- means to seem, to appear, to be evident (SINGH, N 1906: 152). U Soni Riang Ksiar (also: Sni Riang Ksiar) is a god of the Synteng people located in a plantain tree or shrub near a dwelling house (SINGH, N 1906: 206). The noun -ka 'nier- is an abbreviation of -ka snier- and means the entrails (SINGH, N 1906: 143), and the verb -ang- means to open, to crack (SINGH, N 1906: 1). The Khasi -u soh niangriang- is a fruit of the lemon kind and of sweetish taste (SINGH, N 1906: 208) but -ka ñiangriang- is a water beetle (SINGH, N 1906: 142). PROSPECT: Lots of boulders. Possibly enterable via Krem –>Syoi nos. 1 and 2, Krem –>Syllei / Shylle (Ware, Fiona J. & Bayley, Nicola -Nicky-: 2002.02.23 Mss -Krem Wah Pau Pau- dated 23/2/2).
