A perennial stream cave / pothole (Jarratt 2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1) consisting of a perennial stream sink / pothole (Brooks 2006 undated Mss amendments to Jarratt 2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1) represents a perennial stream sink where a couple of 4 m ladder climbs lead to an 8 m climb and ongoing passage. All very warm and bouldery (Jarratt 2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 10/2/06). ETYMOLOGY: The recorded cave name -Krem Um Manong- appears to derive from the reply I'm working on it (note 1). SITUATION 1: Jarratt (2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1) places the 1st Krem Um Manong in a bamboo thicket which lies somewhere on the SE slopes of Lum Manar but in an unexplainable spatial relation to the other cave entrances called Krem Um Manong or Krem poh Um Manong. SITUATION 2 (Jarratt 2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 9/2/06): In the wooded SE face of Lum Manar and without explainable spatial relation to the other caves called Krem Um Manong or Krem poh Um Manong. SITUAION 3 (Jarratt 2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 11/2/06): Beyond the upstream end of Krem Iawe and in an undescribable spatial relation to the other caves called Krem Um Manong or Krem poh Um Manong. SITUATION 4 (Jarratt 2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 14/2/06): In a perennial streambed just below the pine trees and in an unknowable spatial relation to the other caves called Krem Um Manong or Krem poh Um Manong. SITUATION 5: Brooks (undated 2006 Mss amendments to Jarratt 2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1) puts this Krem Um Manong 1 in a certain Syrnum area (note 2) and in no noteworthy spatial relation to the other caves called Krem Um Manong or Krem poh Um Manong. CAVE DESCRIPTION 1a: Jarratt (2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1): Obvious stream sink in bamboo thicket. 4 m awkward climb down in boulders followed by 4 m awkward pitch. Heads SE under bolder floor to 8 m pitch. Halfway down it is possible to reach 2 more drops through boulders uniting at base of 8 m pitch. Near lader base window under boulders to a chamber in huge boulders. CAVE DESCRIPTION 1b: Pacey (2006.02.12 Mss amendment to Jarratt 2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Um Manong 1): From large chamber a 5 m pitch leads to a climb down 4 m to the head of -Running Commentary Pitch-, a 10 m shaft to boulders, land on on a boulder bridge and a fine 20 m shaft. Two leads at the top of a steeply descending stairway of boulders -Stairway of Mennes [or so].- Base of aven with various holes in floor leading diggable draughting [difficult to read: ohder?] with open passage below. High level passage bi-sects 10-15 m up, needs bolt climb. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: Jarratt (2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 10/2/06): A promising perennial stream sink where a couple of 4 m ladder climbs lead to an 8 m climb and ongoing passage. All very warm and bouldery. Jarratt, A.R. (2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 11/2/06): Below the 8 m climb down a scamble over boulders led to the head of a 10 m pot and a massive boulder bridge.From here a 10 m boulder slope led to a 40 m pot. From the top of the boulder boulder slope a c. 50 m pot could be reached. This cave echoes well and is extremely promising. Jarratt, A.R. (2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 12/2/06): … the c. 35 m Running Commentary pitch down into a massive, boulder floored canyon sloping down to a high aven chamber with flowstone [speleothems] and several holes in the floor. All of these closed down after four metres in calcited boulders with views into open passage below. Digging gear would be required to get into this. A couple of high level passages would need bolting up to. CAVE DESCRIPTION 3: Brown et al. (2006 Mss): … Krem Um Manong 1 … down to a canyon passage, via a broken 30 m pitch. High level passages were observed which need bolting up to. The cave currently [2006.02.12] ends with [read: gives access to] choked rifts in floor, needs digging, which is possible. Draughting out. Cave derigged. 81 m surveyed. CAVE DESCRIPTION 4: Siegenthalr (2008 Mss 9.3.08 [sic! for: 9.2.08], Samstag) … Die Krem Um Manong ist ein kleiner Schacht, aus dem es sehr warm und feucht blies. Die Eingangspartie geht zudem durch einen grossen, obskuren Versturz, ist etwas schmierig und überall scheinen die Spinnen zu lauern … brr … wahrlich kein gemütliches Loch! In minus 50 m ändert sich das Gesicht der Höhle allerdings und es wurde spannend. Zuerst beendeten wir die von Henry begonnene Traverse und ich kletterte eine nächste Stufe hoch. Dann stand ich in einem wunderschönen Gang, der mit starkem Luftzug weiterführt. Wir gingen einige Meter und kehrten dann um. Im Zwischenteil schauten wir uns einen Schachtboden an. Da ging es leider nicht weiter. Also wandten wir uns der anderen Hallenseite zu, wo derselbe Gang wie vorhin auch weiterzuführen scheint. Ich assistierte Jeff beim Klettern und Schlossern des Aufstiegs. Nach vier Ankern hatte er einen noch schöneren Gangansatz erreicht als ich vorher und wir jubelten --es is definitiv der Südast drselben Galerie vie vorhin. Auch hier gingen wir einige Meter und kehrten dann auf offener Strecke um. Siegenthaler (2008 Mss 10.3.08 [sic! for: 10.2.08], Sonntag) reports a relic Zig-Zag Passage containing gypsum flowers, calcite formations (speleothems) leading to a mud choked continuation next to a clean washed shaft featuring vadose surfaces: … Wir begannen mit dem SW-Ast. Dieser ging weiter und weiter und schlug immer wieder rechte Haken, den Gesteinsklüften folgend. Wir tauften ihn Zig-Zag-Passage. Uns fielen die zahlreichen Gipsausblühungen auf an den Wänden und der Boden ist oft schön versintert in dieser fossilen Galerie. In einer Kurve hatte es neben prächtigen Sintergebilden auch rekristalisierten Sinter. Wir füllten zwei Messblätter und assen dann etwas. Dann wollten wir noch max. ein 3. Messblatt füllen aber hoppla, nach zwei Messstrecken kam das Ende. Ein vadoser, scharfkantiger Schacht durchschlägt an der einen Seite den Gang und wird in einigen Metern Tiefe definitiv z eng. Die ursprüngliche Galerie geht weiter, ist aber verstürzt und zusedimentiert. Man müsste etwas Lehm abgraben. Siegenthaler (2008 Mss 11.3.08, Montag) reports a Frog-Zig Passage (without any zag: leading to a calcite cemented collapse), from beyond the sticky mud dig another sticky mud choke, and other leads leading nowhere: … im nördlichen Ast (Frog Zig Passage), der leider nur ein grosses Zig machte und dann leider das nötige Zag verpasste … endete der Gang nach ca. 200 m an einem stark versinterten Versturz. … Grabstelle … Henry zwängte sich als erster durch und berichtete aber leider von einem neuen Ende nach schon 15 m. … Henry steckte seine Nase noch in einen kurzen Stumpen, den ich leichtfertig nur gezeichnet hatte ohne wirklich bis ans Ende gekrochen zu sein. Ganz hinten, von vorne absolut nicht zu erkennen, zweigt rechtwicklig ein Abgang ab, der zu einem leicht verblocktem Schachtzustieg führt … einen schönen Neulandschacht, den man einrichten muss! Noch etwas weiter Ganauswärts … einen weiteren vadosen Schacht, der aber auch unten unschliefbar wird. CAVE DESCRIPTION 5: Anonymous (Wade 2008.02.19 Mss: Um Manong): Higher level passages. In the bottom chamber a 4 m climb leads to a 6 m pitch up into a SW leading [note 3] of 3x4m average dimensions. After a few hundred metres this leads to a blocked rift (down) and mud choke (ahead). Fine mud, gour and crystal formations. Climbing up 10 m on another side of chamber leads to the NE continuation of the same passage. Dropping down on the other side of mud —— [boibe? boube?] provides an —— [anan? anon?] to the 'E' —— [wclt? wilh?] a blocked rift at the far side after a bold 7 m climb up. Carrying on in the passage fine stal formations an gour. The passage narrows and is blocked after approx. 200 m. SPELEOMETRY: Brooks & Brown (undated 2008.02.29 Mss: Overview.doc): In Krem Um Manong a bolt climb gained a high level passage taking the cave from 105 m to 922 m in length.
