Histoire
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1321 (circa, in: YULE & BURNELL 1886 / 1903: 341): Friar Odoric does not mention the man-made rock chambers but the Island of »Pori« (note 8) or Porus' island, Gharapuri: »In quod dum sic ascendissem, in xxviii. dietis me transtuli usque ad Tanam … haec terra multum bene est situata … Haec terra antiquitus fuit valde magna. Nam ipsa fuit terra regis Pori, qui cum rege Alexandro praelium maximum commisit« [Thana N19°12': E72°58' is very well located and an ancient place as there is the land of Porus, the king who had gained so much with Alexander the Great].
