Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

The second (lower) of the two more pinnacled than fluted pothole cave entrances (about 3 to 5 by 2 m wide) identified Brown (2006.02.10 Mss: Krem Paulus 2) as a shaft / rift. SITUATION: Adjacent and below the first Krem –>Paulus (Gebauer 1999.03.29). Examining the Lelad caves in detail, Mar W. Brown (2006.02.10 Mss) was not able to provide an access description that would detail how exactly to find Krem Paulus but recorded another GPS position (note 1). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2006: 3-5x2m triangular plan entrance in 15 m high corner / cleft. 15 m+ undescended shaft (Brown 2006.02.10 Mss). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2008: There is a shaft with four pitches which somehow drops down and past overlooked peculiar characteristics not only to a tight tunnel (no size or direction mentioned) but also to another vertical hole in the shaft to a mud choke (after Henry, Philippa, Peter L. and Fraser in: Brown et al. 2008 Mss -Meghalaya 2008 diary- Friday 15th). SPELEOMETRY 2008: Brown et al. (2008 Mss: Survey Sumary) listed Krem Paulus (sic! for: Krem Paulus 2) and cheated with claiming a Total: 40.88; vertical: 37.3 (probably metres) but neither was able to procure and process survey data nor to draw up a cave plan.CAVE CLIMATE: Henry Rockcliff, Philippa Glanvill, Peter Ludwig and Fraser Simpson noticed on 15th February 2008 (no time mentioned) in a very tight tunnel inside Krem Paulus 2 little sign of a draught (air current) in an unidentified flow direction (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Friday 15th).ary) listed Krem Paulus (sic! for: Krem Paulus 2) and cheated with claiming a Total: 40.88; vertical: 37.3 (probably metres) but neither was able to procure and process survey data nor to draw up a cave plan.CAVE CLIMATE: Henry Rockcliff, Philippa Glanvill, Peter Ludwig and Fraser Simpson noticed on 15th February 2008 (no time mentioned) in a very tight tunnel inside Krem Paulus 2 little sign of a draught (air current) in an unidentified flow direction (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Friday 15th).

History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1999.03.29: Under the auspices of by Shanglang Bamon and Thiklang Chyrmang, Kyrshan Dhar guided Gregory D. Diengdoh, H. D. Gebauer, Katharina 'Kate' Janossy, Paul A. Edmunds, and ten senior students of the Wells Cathedral School to the entrance of a second pothole cave entrance below Krem Paulus, where HDG recorded a 4-channel GPS position. 2006.02.10: Mark W. Brown located (Brown 2006.02.10 Mss), evaluated, recorded (Brooks, S.J. 2006 undated Mss amendments to Brown 2006.02.10 Mss) once more a pothole cave that had been recorded and evaluated already seven years earlier. 2008.02.15: Mark guided Henry, Philippa, Peter L. and Fraser to Krem Paulus 2 then returned to camp. Henry rigged down a shaft with four pitches, which led to a very tight tunnel that they were unsuccessful in pushing, with little sign of a draught. Another vertical hole in the shaft led to a mud choke (Brown et al. 2008 Mss 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Friday 15th).2009.02.21: Phrang Kupar “Tedy” Mawlong, Karma Choki Bhutia (Leading Store Assistant, Indian Navy) and Steve Whitlock descended three pitches down to a blockage, which they were not able to pass. On the other hand, … they resurveyed the cave with obvious existing survey points, but with no recorded data (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Saturday 21st).
