Description
The -Resting Place Cave- is an impressive rift pot, on average 5 m wide and estimated 30 m long in what is either an unexplainable or simply not identified direction. Huge breakdown boulders span the chasm and obliterate the otherwise clean 86 m drop to a bouldery floor without any obvious way on. ETYMOLOGY: Evermore (Raplang) showed on 2008.02.10 to Thomas Arbenz, Kate [Katharina] Janossy, and A. Rosen (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: -Meghalaya 2008 diary- Sunday 10th February) a relatively new cave Krem Moolieh (note 1) unknown age, which they decided to be identical with the Krem Kor, which the Pastor Menda -Mendar- or -Mende- Syih and Hehpormei -Heipormi- or 'Hyporme- Pajuh had shown on 2005.02.21 to Robin F. Sheen and Brian Cotter. The Khasi noun -[ka] kór- is [a] resting place built of stones on both sides of the path; [a] machine, engine while -[u] kòr- is [a] mole cricket; [a] kind of reed (SINGH, N 1906: 45). The adjective -kór- means valuable, precious. SITUATION: In an unidentifid setting and in an unspecified location (note 2). APPROACH: To reach this cave, walk down ESE from Shnongrim village on a well defined trail towards the spur of Manar [note 3] for approximately 1.5 km. The entrance lies in [what was in February 2005] a bamboo filled depression to the right [perhaps south-west] by the caves called Krem Ryngko and just before [no distance mentioned] the narrow col [note 4], which gives entry to Manar. (after Sheen, R. F. 2005.02.25 Mss -Krem Kor- and Sheen, R. F. 2005.08.20 personal correspondence). CAVE DESCRIPTION (Brown, M.W. et al. 2008 Mss -Meghalaya 2008 diary- after Kate, Axel and Tom): With less than 140% of space warping one can perform descending estimated 20m down a slope to a rift pot c20m deep (Sunday 10th February) which is characterised by a bolt at the bottom of the first pitch (Monday 11th February). SPELEOMETRY (Arbenz, T 2005.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls): Length 92.67 m, vertical 86 m, discovered [sic!] RS 21.02.21, last visit 24.02.2005, oulder choke.d setting and in an unspecified location (note 2). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2005.02.21, trip 1: Mendar (Menda / Mende Syih) and Hyporme (Heipormi Pajuh) guided Robin F. Sheen and Brian Cotter (also Cooper, Cowper) to the entrance of a Krem Kor (Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss). 2005.02.24, trip 2: Robin F. Sheen and J. / Jo / Joe Whistler descended, bottomed and 'surveyed' (Sheen 2005.08.20 personal correspondence) 92.67 m (Brooks, S J et al. 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary): Robin and Jo went to Krem kor in the Manar area and rigged approximately 80 m down a large shaft with jammed boulders, still going. They surveyed 92 m (Brooks, S J et al. 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary). 2005.02.25, trip 3: Brian Mac, Robin and Shelley went to Krem Kor and found it did not continue. Then began rigging a nearby shaft (Brooks, S J et al. 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary). 2008.02.10, trip 4: Kate, Axel and Tom went with Evermore [Raplang] to see some new caves. One of these, Krem Moolieh was descended 20 m down a slope to a rift pot c20 m deep (Brown et al.2008 Mss 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Sunday 10th February). 2008.02.11, trip 5: Peter, Tom, Jean-Pierre, Sharon and Des went to Krem Moolieh. At the bottom of the first pitch they found a bolt, so they de-rigged. They believe it to be Krem Kor which was found in 2003 by Robin (Brown et al. 2008 Mss 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Monday 11th February).
