Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified, apparently vertical cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to a pothole cave associated with the Khasi people's Titans about whom Mark W. Brown learned nothing. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and history (or herstory) of the cave name -Krem Mulale- has not been discovered by expedition cavers but the Synteng Khasi (Pnar) -u mu- is the same as the standard Khasi -u maw- and signifies a stone whilst -ki Lale- (Holding Bamon, Wesley Rupon and Churchill Sukhlain 2001.02.08) is the name of legendary, ancient people of great strength and large build. SITUATION: At an unspecified location on the eastern side of the Shnongrim Ridge and in an inexplicable setting which Mark W. Brown understood to lie somewhere in the vicinity of the village of Tongseng (N25°19'28-: E92°30'05” WGS84). The cave entrances elevation of 1062.46 m asl (original GPS reading: 1086 m) results from the cave srvey based on the assumed altitude of 1000.00 m asl for the Krem –>Umthluh 2 (resp. 993 m for Krem Umthluh 1). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Apart from unidentified characteristics and unidentified peculiarities, amazingly little or, to be straightforward, nothing relevant whatsoever (note 1) has been observed except 10 x 15 diameter shaft rock bridge 50 m (?) deep. Big (20 m high) chamber / passage leads off (Brown, Mark W 2001.02.08).rvey based on the assumed altitude of 1000.00 m asl for the Krem –>Umthluh 2 (resp. 993 m for Krem Umthluh 1). History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2001.02.08, trip 1: Holding Bamon, Wesley Rupon and Churchill Sukhlain guided Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Mark W. Brown and Tom Chapman to the entrance of Krem Moolale. 2002.02.20, trip 2: Barlis Tongseng (from Tongseng village), a friendly local man, who was cutting wooden roof beams at the recently deforested area, showed Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt and 'Yorkshire' Dave Hodgson a huge pothole (Krem Moolale) called Krem Umtyngier (Jarratt 2002.02.20 Mss: Meghalaya Cave Log 20/2/02). 2008.02.09, trip 3: Mark, Alys, Kate and Rowena went to look for Krem Khlaw Lakar. Mark rigged Krem Moolale by mistake while the others surveyed. They then located the nearby Krem Khlaw Lakar (Brown, Mark W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Saturday 9th February). 2008.02.10, trip 4: Mark and Alys went to Krem Moolale and inspected all side passages up to the Wah Umthloo junction. The only leads found were avens, so they began bolting up the large aven at the end of the Blnd Series (Brown, Mark W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Sunday 10th February). 2008.02.11, trip 5: Mark, Alys and Rowena went to Krem Moolale and continued climbing the aven at the end of the Blind Series. They entered Hangover passage at the top, which dropped back into known passage so they surveyed c 56 m and derigged the climb (Brown, Mark W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Monday 11th February). 2008.02.13, trip 6: Mark, Peter G, Axel, Alys and Ronnie went to Krem Moolale. Pete took photos and Mark climbed part way up an aven at the end of Gothic Passage (Brown, Mark W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Wednesday 13th February). 2008.02.16, trip 7: Mark, Peter L., Fraser and Axel went down Krem Moolale, where Mark continued his bolt climb and Fraser did some videoing. (Brown, Mark W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Saturday 16th February). 2008.02.24, trip 8: Mark and Henry completed the aven climb at the end of Gothic Passage in Krm Moolale, which had a passage choked with boulders and calcite at two thirds height --total height c. 30 m (Brown, M.W. et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Sunday 24th February).
