Description
An up to 3 m by 5 m wide rift cave entrance gives access to a 15 m or 33 m deep shaft that drops into a cave without identified name (note 1) where stones thrown sound as if they rattle down a slope into a fully explored, -surveyed- and photographed cave. Few has become known apart from a water-condensing, relatively strong (without relation) and comparatively warm (without comparison) outdraught (air current) at the entrance at an overlooked hour of an unknown day. SITUATION (Sheen 2002.02.22 Mss: Krem Krang C Krem Mihslap / Krem Raining Out Cave): At an unknown location somewhere on the eastern side of the Shnongrim ridge and in an inexplicable spatial relation to a spot where two large gullies meet (note 2) in the Krang area, where one can pass through a low clint [note 3] into a neighbouring grike [note 4] and the pot is then obvious. 10 to 15 m from the sink (dry in February 2002). The most southernly stream sinks at the head of the pot. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2002a: The cave passage i clean washed and we reached a point 30 m down a big shaft that continued for 20 m or more beyond the end of our rope [note 5] (Harries, D B 2002.06.10 personal correspondence). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2002b:A 33 m pot, a couple of smaller pitches and some streamway, the cave unexpectedly peters out (Dowswell 2002.02.25 Mss: Abode of the Clouds 2003). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2003: Pot nicknamed -Raining Out Cave- for its condensation and draught (Jarratt 2003). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2004: Sheen, R F (undated 2004 November) Raining-out Cave Plan applies 13 arrows to indicate the locations of 01) Entrance 02) Entrance pitches 03) Aven >10m Rock floor 04) Aven >30 m Large aven with boulder floor, glittering scinter (sic!) & -bracket-fungus- formations on cave walls 05) Aven >10 m Calcite floor 06) Calcite slope 07) High lvele oxbow with mud floor 08) Constriction formed by calcite curtains 09) Very large boulder 10) Limit of formal survey 11) Oxbow 12) High level muddy passage 13) Drafting boulder choke an adds a general note according to which the Lower series is a seasonally active streamway, floored for the most part by hard packed cobbles, boulders and gravel with occasional shallow pools of standing water at the time of the survey withou identified time of the survey. PROSPECTS: Sheen (2002.02.22 Mss: Krem Krang C …) believes Krem Krang 1, or: Raining Out Cave.–Very good considering the draught and interesting because of the warm rain that filled the air pouring out. Ware & Harries (2002.02.25 Mss amendment to Sheen 2002.02.22 Mss: Krem Krang C…) judge the prospects of Cave C.– Excellent: connects to upstream Umthloo? Harries (2002.06.10 personal correspondence) has the impression Raining Out Cave is a rather nice lead … Looks like it might drop into upstream Umthloo. I'm rather keen to follow this one as my first priority next year. It would make a damn fine through trip if it connects! CAVE LIFE: KOTTELAT, HARRIES & PROUDLOVE (2007: 43 table 2) list Krem Krang 1 at 25°20'21.” N, 92°30'13.7” E among the caves in the Sutnga area (sic! qua: Nongkhlieh elaka) in which the cave dwelling, nemacheilid loach Schistura prob. papulifera (Teleostei: Balituridae) has been recorded: Date Feb 2003 D.
