LIZARD's SPLAT CAVE
25.296900,92.514700
Description
A cave entrance, which is obscured by boulders and enclosed on three sides by small cliffs without identified dimensions, is not only a kind of pothole but also said to represent a seasonal sink (Brooks, S.J. 2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat). ETYMOLOGY: No locally known name has been identified for this gully, seasonal stream, and sink. Instead, it was initially nicknamed Lizard Splat Cave but then was alienated and became a half-bread Krem Lizard Splat due to the fact that on day of recci a lizard [note 1] jumped off a ledge and landed with a 'splat' [note 2] at the bottom of the entrance drop (note 3). SITUATION: Not only at an inexplicable location falling within the Survey of India sheet quadrangle 83-C/11.3.03 (the Wah Sapoh on Arbenz' Shnongrim map) and somewhere in the so-called Um Muju area (Brooks 2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat) but also without identified spatial relation to the other cave entrances in this vicinity. APPROACH: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Slat) interpreted aspects of Henry's notes to suggest starting from Gully Sink [note 4]. Continue [without specified distance: allegedly more than 850 m = disputable] down gully on the right-hand side [without direction] of gully. An inlet gully joins [without GPS position] after which a sink enclosed on three sides by small cliffs [without size] is found. This is the 'Lizard Splat' entrance. CAVE DESCRIPTION: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat) invites everybody interested to sink under boulders. Route can be found through boulders for 2 m after which a rift estimated 8 m deep is met. TACKLE: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat): SRT rope + belays (20 m+) or ladder. PROSPECTS: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat): Good. CAVE CLIMATE: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat): Draughting. CAVE LIFE: Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat): Lizard (conf. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2009.02.19: Henry Rockcliff, Roshan Yengkhom (Medical Assistant, Indian Navy), and Polchung 'Chung' Kipgen (Indian Navy) walked down from the village of Tangnub and found previously ignored cave entrances, which they declared to represent nine new caves (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Thursday 19th). Brooks (2009.06.06 Mss: Krem Lizard Splat) interpreted aspects of Henry's notes to record 19/2/2009 Henry Rockcliff accompanied by Roshan Yengkhom & Polchung (Chung) Kipgen (Indian Navy) locate & record cave [sic! qua: cave entrance] on recci to area.
