Description
A cave entrance without identified shape, dimensions or characteristics (preferably unmistakable), which appears to represent a seasonal sink, gives access to a clean-washed pothole with an estimated 30 m deep cascade of pitches, of which the first two can be free-climbed and eqipment is required beyond. ETYMOLOGY: No locally known cave name has been identified for what Henry Rockcliff noticed on 19th February 2009 and Simon J. Brooks eventually nicknamed on 6th June 2009 Canyon Sink (Brooks 2009.06.06 Mss: Canyon Sink). SITUATION 1: In an inexplicable location within in the Um Muju quadrangle (N25°18': E092°31' to N25°19': E092°32') and at a spot without identified spatial relation to the other known cave entrances in the Um Muju area (note 1). SITUATION 2: In the so-called Um Muju area (Brooks 2009.06.06 Mss -Canyon Sink- location) renamed after a like-wise unspecified Wah Tabrah location (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Thursday 19th February). SITUATION 3: n an area with little / no known cave (Brooks 2009.06.06 Mss -Canyon Sink- outlook). APPROACH: From GPS point N25°17'56”: E092°30'58” head down a ridge which is probably a spur on the eastern flank of the Shnongrim ridge. On the northern side of this ridge is a gully, the bed of a seasonal stream can be followed down to the entrance of the cave and the streambed continuous [sic! continues] beyond sink (after Brooks 2009.06.06 Mss: Canyon Sink). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1: One of altogether … nine new caves, all of them with vertical entrances under the big broken boulders. Most of them are drafting [sic! more likely: draughting] and oulook [sic!] of all the caves are good (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Thursday 19th February). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2009.02.19: Henry Rockcliff, Roshan Yengkhom (Medical Assistant, Indian Navy), and Polchung 'Chung' Kipgen (Indian Navy) walked down from the village of Tangnub and found previously ignored cave entrances, which they declared to represent nine new caves (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Thursday 19th).
