Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A cave entrance without specified shape and unidentified dimensions was understood to give access to a pothole with pits, pitches, pots, shafts, and so on (Bartholeyns in: Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th). ETYMOLOGY 1: No autochthonous (original, locally known) cave name has been identified for this cave entrance and pothole, which Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns decided to christen all on his own -Quiet Bird Cave“ but, upon attempting to get it -khasificationated- at all costs, ended up with the nonsense of one Krem Sem Ki Snegp while a -Krem Sim Sngap- or, better, a -Krem Sim Sngap Jar- had been intended (note 1). ETYMOLOGY 2: Brooks, S J et al. (2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th) recorded an allegedly Khasi but actually nonsensical -Krem Sem ki Snegp- as if they had aimed for a -Krem Sem ki Sngap- which would translate into Cave [specified by] Sheds / Pens which Listen / Hear (note 2). APPROACH: Unknown. All what J.-P. Bartholeyns mastered to understandwas that the entrance to this cave was reached from an unidentified starting point by following the path in the garden (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th February). CAVE DESCRIPTION: According to J.-P. Bartholeyns in: Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th), the negotiation of obstacles in this pothole cave commences with a 9 m drop down to a boulder choke from where a route leads to the top of a 41 m deep 46 m pitch, complete with a boulder hanging just above it and descending to a sediment bottom and no way on. SPELEOMETRY: The accumulated survey length ranges between actually measured 81.62 m (Arbenz, T 2009.06.01 Mss: total 2009.xls) and baseless 112.62 m (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th).was that the entrance to this cave was reached from an unidentified starting point by following the path in the garden (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Tuesday 17th February). Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2009.02.03: Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns, and a team of Indian Navy sailors, comprised of Biranchi Narayan Bhola (Leading Store Assistant), Karma Choki Bhutia (Leading Store Assistant), Pankaj Rai (Seaman 1st Class), and Sujan Shubba (Leading Seaman), … did surface recce … and met two local people [Libar Pala and Hawo Sutnga, residents of Tangnub] (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Tuesday 3rd). 2009.02.17: Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns and Sujan Shubba relocated, visited and explored a pothole cave, which had been shown to them by unidentified locals without identified names. Having visited Krem Sem Khlaw (Garden Bird) they followed a certain … path in the garden to Krem Sem Ki Snegp (Quiet Bird). The 1st shaft, 9 m deep stopped at a boulder choke. They found a way through until the head of a 46 m pitch which J-P hesitated to go down because of the boulder hanging just above it. He managed it finally with a drop of 41 m. Unfortunatey the bottom was also closed by sediment. They surveyed 112.62 m, derigged and went back to camp (Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns in: Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Tuesday 17th).
