Description
The first entrance to a double pothole (Jarratt 2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Ladaw 1 / banana cave) called Krem Ladaw 1 is believed to give access to one or both of the expected ud rifts (Arbenz, T 2004.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi -la- is (1) a sign of the Past Tense (as, u la leit noh); (2) a sign of the Possesive Case, of (as, u la shem la ka masi); (3) though, although (SINGH, N 1906: 108). The Khasi -ka daw- is a cause, an excuse (SINGH, N 1906: 65). Jarratt (2004.02.26 Mss) understood -ka krem ladaw- means Banana Cave but the English -banana / plantain- translates into the Khasi ka kait while the Synteng -ka kait“ are scissors (SINGH, N 1906: 20). SITUATION 1: In the side of what Jarratt (2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Ladaw 1 / banana cave) described as an obvious, large, cleared and cultivated doline on the side of the ridge north of Pa Heh [note 1] / Carlyn Phynrngap's home. The home of Paheb Shor Pajuh and Carlyn Phyrngap stands at a spot which Fiona J. Ware & Nicola -Nikki-Bailey once GPS positioned (unspecified precision error) near N25°20'23.5”: E092°30'03.1” (WGS84, 2002.02.23, GPS Garmin Etrex).SITUATION 2: According to the GPS readings recorded, lies the pair of pothole cave entrances called Krem Ladaw (1.1 and 1.2) at a linear distance of 46.6 m north-east of Krem –>Ladaw 2. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Jarratt 2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Ladaw 1 / banana cave): Double pothole. 2 open rifts wh may possibly connect.
