MOOLIER, Lymoh, 1st (Krem)

One of two cave entrances without identified shape, unspecified dimensions, and unknown orientation is the first of two communicating cave entrances which give access to what probably is an estimated 23 m long, true tunnel-cave, possibly represented by one single cave passage. Audsley, A U (2010.02.19 Mss: Krem Moolier 17/2/10) characterised this tunnel-cave not only a cave complete (apparently in the sense of once briefly visited) but also as a Cave formed in grykes probably a monsoon flood system or, to be precise, a thingumbob of sorts. ARBENZ, T (2012: 239) reduced the cave to a caving item, which is regarded as minor cave and interpreted as a horizontal cave formed in [in connection with / in a setting of] grykes, probably a monsoon flood system. Two entrances. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the recorded cave name Krem Moolier (Audsley, A U 2010.02.19 Mss) was not understood (note 1) but is plainly descriptive insofar as it combines the Synteng Khasi (Pnar) word -moo- or -m- for rock with the word -lyer- (also: l'er, 'er) for air; breeze, wind (note 2) to form -moo l'er- (from the standard Khasi maw + lyer), literally air rock, to describe an occurrence of rocks projecting from the surface of the ground, so-to-say -standing karst- (clints and grikes). SITUATION: In an unidentified spatial relation to the corresponding cave entrance of Krem Moolier (Lymoh) no. 2. The GPS position near (allegedly ±9 m) N25°24'36.5”: E092°36'29.7”: 739 m asl (WGS84, Audsley, A U 2010.02.17) indicates a spot which lies a) above the orographically left (locally south) bank of the Kopili River, b) at linear distances of about 3 km east of the village of Pala (N25°24'40”: E092°34'10” WGS84) or about 2 km approximately SSE of the village of Kseh (St. Joseph church near 25°25’24.0”N: 92°35’32.9”E: circa 880 m), c) about 150 m in a direct line east of the lower Krem –>Lymoh and on the spur between the Lymoh gorge or Lymmoh Canyon in the north-west but south-west of he SE-NW-draining canyon (gorge) downstream of Krem –>Enle and Krem –>Shalong.APPROACH: From grid reference N_25_24_43.7_E_92_36_19.8 on the south bank of the Lymmoh [sic!] Canyon just up [note 3] the cattle crossing [note 4] continue on the path heading ESE until you reach the [sic! qua: an unspecified and allegedly nameless] mini-canyon. Head up mini-canyon for 40 m and [one of the cave's two] entrance[s] is [among one of the] grykes at [sic! qua: near allegedly ±9 m] N25_24_36.5_E_92_36_23.7 (Audsley, A U 2010.02.19 Mss: Krem Moolier 17/2/10).
