Description
The first cave of several (note 1) associated with a field (in Khasi: ka lyngkha) belonging to the Kores family was understood to consist of a pothole (Jarrratt 2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Lyngkha U Koris 1) or an open pot (Davies 2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1). ETYMOLOGY: Both Jarrratt (2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Lyngkha U Koris 1) and Davies (2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1) recorded the family name -Koris- but Arbenz (undated, circa 2007.02.25 Mss: Korrekturen 2007, after a female teacher without identified name at Shnongrim village) learned it is better spelled -Kores-. SITUATION: Jarrratt (2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Lyngkha U Koris 1) places Krem Lyngkha U Koris 1 … near Carly Phyrngap's plantation, in Koris's plantation on N flank of ridge. At side of a double doline. APPROACH: Davies (2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1) commands to follow the ridge road to N25°20'19-.3 E92°30'02.0-: 1068 m [unspecified precision error, Jonathan Davies 2004.02.28, GPS Garmin Etrex]. Head downthe spur towards the Cement Factory on 310°. Descend spur circa 350 m [note 2] and trend left (Davies 2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1: Jarrratt (2004.02.26 Mss: Krem Lyngkha U Koris 1) recorded c. 20 m pothole open at one side where a free climb provides access. A handline would be useful. A pothole is reported further on. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: Davies (2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1): Elliptical pot descending for 19 m [Tackle: 20 m rope and slings] to a mud and soil floor. One end of the pot is closed with a boulder choke. The other water drains into [into an unknown direction via] a mud hole [with] no way on.the spur towards the Cement Factory on 310°. Descend spur circa 350 m [note 2] and trend left (Davies 2004.02.28 Mss: Krem Lynkha Koris #1).
