Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to the first of three comparatively nice caves that were skirting the canyon left and right like long oxbows (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary). IDENTITY: The 82 m long Krem Bachor 3 surveyed by one Brian and a certain Thomas (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 7th February) is probably the same as 82.5 m long cave Bachor1 allegedly surveyed on 2006.04.10 (sic!) by nobody (anonymous 2006.04.10 -Bachor1.text- survey data file). ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the recorded caves names -Krem Bachor- and -Krem Pachor- has not been identified but makes no sense whatsoever. So far recorded have been the cave names Krem Bachor 1, 2 and 3 anonymous Arbenz, T (2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 7th February). Bachor 1 Anonymous (2006.04.10 bachor1.txt survy data file; Anonymous (2013.03.24 bachor1.text survey data file). Krem Pachor 1/2/3 Krem Pachor 2 Anonymous (2013.03.11 Krem Pachor 2_01.Text survey data file); anonymous Arbenz, T (2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 9th February). Krem Pachor 3 Anonymous (2013.03.11 Krem Pachor 3_01.Text survey data file); anonymous Arbenz, T (2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 9th February). SITUATION: Apparently at a walking distance of about 30 minutes (2 km) along a winding route approximately east of the village of Khahnar () and above one or the other bank of an unidentified (no name mentioned) but especially monumental nice river [sic!], about four metres wide and characterised by potentially socks-moistening water occurring in the shape of pools too deep for Peter and Angela (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 7th February). APPROACH: Force a farmer to guide you from the village of Khahnar in an unidentified direction along a relaively steep track down the hill flank towards an unidentified the valley bottom with an unidentified name. Reach after what had been on 7th February 2013 a good 30 minutes the bed of an unidentified a nice river [sic!], about four metres wide with an unidentified name. Follow this in an unidentified direction upstream till you became not only aware that you have got into a quite overgrown canyon but also that banks got steeper to a degree which forced expedition cavers to walk in the streambed. Soon the pools got too deep for Peter and Angela’s walking boots, so they turned back … Ralph was acting as ferret, never missing anything and so they found three nice caves that were skirting the canyon left and right like long oxbows: Krem Bachor 1, 2 and 3 (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary).

Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2013.02.07: James 'Jimmy' Manar from the village of Khahnar stepped in to guide Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Thomas Arbenz, Ralph Doyle, Angela and Peter Glanvill along a relatively steep Shaktiman track down the hill flank towards the valley bottom. After a good 30 minutes’ walk they reached a nice river, about four metres wide. This they followed upstream and got into a quite overgrown canyon. The banks got steeper and the team was forced to walk in the streambed. Soon the pools got too deep for Peter and Angela’s walking boots, so they turned back to look at a cave we had passed on the way down. The others continued up the canyon looking for Krem Khla. Jimmy, the guide, had only a rough idea where the cave might be, because he was a stand-in for the original guide. On the way along the cavers looked therefore thoroughly at every promising looking opening. Ralph was acting as ferret, never missing anything and so they found three nice caves that were skirting the anyon left and right like long oxbows: Krem Bachor 1, 2 and 3. But Krem Khla, the Tiger Cave was not in sight … while Brian and Thomas surveyed Krem Bachor 3, clocking up 82 m of nice decorated cave passage (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary).
