Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A cave entrance without identified shape, dimensions or characteristics (preferably unmistakable) gives access to pothole / seasonal sink (Brooks undated 2009 June Mss amendment to Rockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb 3). SITUATION: Not only in an inexplicable location (note 1) falling on the Lyngtah quadrangle (N25°17': E092°31' to N25°18': E092°32') but also at a spot without identified spatial relation to the other known cave entrances in the Um Muju area (note 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Thursday 19th February): One of … nine new caves, all of them with vertical entrances under the big broken boulders. Most of them are drafting [sic! more likely: draughting] and oulook [sic!] of all the caves are good. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2 (Rockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss -Hony Comb 3- prospects), literally quoted: Two shaft pitch continue in L shape at the bottom no passage going through muddy (sic!). CAVE DESCRIPTION 3: An open pot of 14 m stops on a boulde. After some blocks it is possible to continue down a crack on 27 m. The bottom of the pitch ended on mud. From the platform 15 m above, they went down another 14 m pitch which also ended on mud (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss -Diary 2009.doc-Sunday 22nd February).CAVE DESCRIPTION 4 (Brooks undated 2009 June Mss amendment to Rockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb): Pitch under rock arch. 14 m plus deep to a wedge boulder. From here a drop of 27 m down a rift reaches a mud fill. A parallel pitch of 14 m depth (accessed from ledge part way down 27 m pitch) also end-bottoms in a mud fill. CAVE CONTENTS: Rockcliff (2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb 3) admits to have no specific contents found inside the cave. PROSPECTS (Rockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb 3): Good. CULTURAL HISTORY: Rockcliff (2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb 3) admits to have no cultural relevance found inside the cave. CAVE LIFE: Rockcliff (2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb 3) went so far to have no insects and living creatures found in the cave.. Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2009.02.19: Henry Rockcliff, Roshan Yengkhom (Medical Assistant, Indian Navy), and Polchung 'Chung' Kipgen (Indian Navy) walked down from the village of Tangnub and found eleven previously ignored cave entrances, which they declared to represent nine new caves (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Thursday 19th). 2009.02.22: Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns, Sujan Shubba (Leading Seaman, Indian Navy), and Polchung 'Chung' Kipgen (Indian Navy) … rig one of the caves previously located by Henry on 19.02.09. It is an open pot of 14 m which stops on a boulder. After some blocks it is possible to continue down a crack on 27 m. The bottom of the pitch ended on mud. From the platform 15 m above, they went down another 14 m pitch which also ended on mud. Because the tape was 'too short” they could not survey the cave which has been kept rigged (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc'Sunday 22nd February). Brooks (undated 2009 June Mss amendment toRockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb): 22/2/2009 — Jean-Pierre, Sujan and Chung descend first pitch (14m) & second pitch rift (27m) to reach bottom. A parallel pitch was also descended. Cave not surveyed (no tape!). 2009.02.23: Peter, Sujan and Chung went to Um Muju (Brooks, S J et al. 2009 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Monday 23rd February). Brooks (undated 2009 June Mss amendment to Rockcliff 2009.02.19 Mss: Hony Comb): 23/2/2009 — Peter, Sujan & Chung de-rig cave + survey cave. Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
