Description
A relatively large pot (Sheen 2005.02.11 Mss: Krem Lyngkha 1) if not even an estimated 6 m by 20 m wide rift pot allows to drop 36 m down to relatively large collapse boulders from where a cave chamber with unidentified dimensions allows not only to proceed off to the west bit also to reach soon (no distance mentioned) chokes in a sandy floor. Brooks (2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary 2005.02.10), however, betters this Krem Lyngkha into a large open rift pot 20 x 6 x 60 m deep when actually the so-called -survey- (sportsman standards) yielded a vertical range of ± 36 m (+0 m / - 35.81 m) at a survey length of 69.37 m.IDENTITY: Some doubt remains that the first Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2005) is the same as Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2003). Little doubt remains that both the first Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2005) and Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2003) is distinct from the –>River House Cave and severly misspelled Krem Wah Yung (Sheen 2003.02.13 Mss: Krem Wah Yung, River House Cave), which the same as Krem –>Jinhaw poh LumSETTING: In an area of cleared karstified jungle at base of low cliff (Sheen 2003.02.13 Mss: Krem Lyngkha). SITUATION: At the confluence of two gulleys (no names mentioned) in a field (in Khasi: ka lyngkha) on the western side of the Shnongrim Ridge: From waystation [not identified] on the ridge above the 2005 camp [note 1] head downhill on a bearing 270 degrees [due west] for three hundred metres (Sheen 2005.02.11 Mss: Krem Lyngkha 1). POSITIONS: The recorded GPS positions provide a wealth of misleading confusion. According to the cave description (Sheen 2005.02.11 Mss: Krem Lyngkha 1), the first Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2005) lies an estimated 40 m in a direct line approximately south-west of the second Krem Lyngkha (Sheen 2005) but according to GPS readings (±9 m, Sheen 2005.02.11, Garmin Etrex) only 6 m due south. Two years earlier Sheen (2003.02.13 Mss: Krem Lyngkha) had GPS positioned one Krem Lyngkha rift pot (apparently identical with Krem Lyngkha 1) near (allegedly ±5 m) N25°20'2.6”: 092°29'54.4”: 1148 m asl (WGS84, Nigel Robertson 2003.02.13, Garmin Etrex Summit) and thus 80 M or 90 m NNE of the 2005 Lynkha caves. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2003: An estimated 20 m deep rift pot in karst (Sheen 2003.02.13 Mss: Krem Lyngkha). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005a: A relatively large (6 M by 20 m wide) open rift pot drops 36 m to large collapse boulders from where a chamber (no dimensions mentioned) off to the West soon (no distance mentioned) chokes in a sandy floor (Sheen 2005.02.11 Mss: Krem Lyngkha 1). SPELEOMETRY 2005a: Length 36 m; vertical 36 m; Sand choke (Arbenz, T 2005.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2003.02.13: Shor (Paheb Shor Pajuh) and Kupar (note 2) guided Robin F. Sheen (2003.02.13 Mss: Krem Lyngkha) and Nigel Robertson to Krem Lyngkha (Field Cave). 2005.02.10: Robin … went west of the ridge above camp to relocate Krem Lyngkha (Brooks 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary). 2005.02.11: Robin F. Sheen, Peter Ludwig and Rainer Hoss descended and 'surveyed' (Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05) to a degree yielding an accumulation of lengthwise measured distances (Brooks 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary.doc, entry 2005.02.11; Brooks 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary; Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05).
