AA CAVE B 1 (Sheen 2007)

A cave entrance without identified shape or dimensions appears to function as a seasonal sinkhole (Sheen & Ende 2007.02.12 Mss: B1; Sheen 2008.02.22 Mss: B1) and gives access to a calcited shaft that sometimes drops more than 25 m (Anonymous = Rockcliff 2008.02.16 Mss: BI) but at other times estimated 30 m down to a silt covered floor with no way on (Sheen 2008.02.22 Mss: B1). The characteristic peculiarity of this cave and pothole is an internal threaded wedge anchor (Anonymous = Rockcliff 2008.02.16 Mss: BI) resembling those manufactured by Spit© (note 1). SITUATION 1: Upon attempting to describe exactly how the two caves of B1 and B2 are to be found, Sheen & Ende (2007.02.12 Mss: B1) leave you not only without identified spatial relation to the other anonymous -B- caves in the vicinity but also forward at a vague location inside what was in the Februaries of 2007 and 2008 a temporary banana grove (in Khasi: ka bri kait) somewhere on the contour circa 1030 m [note 2] paralleling norh-northeast from the Knee-Wrecker Pots towards Krem Ryngko Lymthymme alias Krem –>Synrem (N25°22'20.6”: E92°31'56.4”). SITUATION 2: Brown et al. (2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Saturday 16th February) place B1 half a kilometre south of the B3 cave (note 3): The GPS location for B1 was adjusted to [by Henry Rockcliff, Peter and Philippa Glanvill] as the true position was about 500 m south of B3. SITUATION 3: Anonymous = Rockcliff (2008.02.16 Mss: BI) places B1 … in Banana Grove. Another cave nearby (15 m) fits description of B2. Simon J. Brooks (undated amendment to Rockcliff 2008.02.16 Mss: BI) contributes the comment Lumthari Area (in brackets). SITUATION 4: According to the GPS positions recorded in 2008 (Rockcliff 2008.02.16, Sheen 2008.02.22), the so-called B1 cave lies at a linear distance of 168 m approximately NNE (145 m north + 84 m east) from –>Knee-Wrecker Pot 4. POSITION 2008.02.22: N25°22'04.7”: E92°31'13.1” (WGS84, ±10 bogus precision? R. Sheen 2008.02.22 GPS Garin): 1024 m asl (note 4). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (Sheen & Ende 2007.02.12 Mss: B1): The entrance to B1 was understood to give access to estimated 10 m of active stream passage emitting a moisture laden air current. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2 (Anonymous = Rockcliff 2008.02.16 Mss: BI): Seasonal sink in Banana grove … containing a 'spit' (internal threaded wedge anchor). This type of bolt used before the 2002 expedition only).CAVE DESCRIPTION 3 (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Saturday 16th February): Henry Rockcliff, Peter and Philippa Glanvill located B3 and later B1 or another cave (?) where Henry descended the 25 metre shaft but located a spit type used pre 2002 just below the lip of the pich. CAVE DESCRIPTION 4 (Sheen 2008.02.22 Mss -B1- dated 22/2/08): Cave takes a stream from nearby swallet [note 7]. From the entrance a calcited shaft 30 m deep ends in silt covered floor with no way on.
