Description
The 9th known cave entrance to Krem –>Kotsati consists of a funnel-shaped doline (about 10 m in diameter), descends a few metres down to the brink of a 23 m deep vertical shaft down into a horizontal cave passage in Krem Kot Sati. ETYMOLOGY: The Synteng Khasi (Pnar) "put lyer" was said to mean »blowing hole« (note 1) as it emits, especially on cool days in winter, a relatively strong current of moisture laden air (vapour, plume, etc.). SITUATION: On the southern fringes of Lumshnong village proper, on the west (right) side of the Khliehriat - Sonapur road, and hidden in the jungle below the 'Border Task Force' (paramilitary engineers) camp.
NOTE 1: put (Khasi; verb) sound a wind instrument (SINGH, N 1906: 165); whistle; wind (SINGH, N 1920: 591, 593); pipe; whistle (BLAH, E 2007: 225, 332). ka lyér (SINGH, N 1906: 115, 121; SINGH, N 1920: 598; BLAH, E 2007: 8, 333), abbreviated ”ka l'er” (SINGH, N 1906: 115, 121; SINGH, N 1920: 13) and ”ka 'er” (SINGH, N 1906: 76), has not only been translated as »air« (SINGH, N 1906: 76, 115, 121; SINGH, N 1920: 13; BLAH, E 2007: 8) but also as »wind« (OLDHAM, T 1854 / 1984 appendix C: lxviii; SINGH, N 1906: 76, 115, 121; SINGH, N 1920: 593; BLAH, E 2007: 333) and »breeze« (SINGH, N 1906: 76).
History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1996.03.10: H. Daniel Gebauer, Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Georg Bäumler, Franz Baumgartner, Kyrmen 'Hope' C Hiwot Passah and Roiy Sayag noted the daylight aven while surveying upstream Umlawan river. 1993.03.11: H. Daniel Gebauer and G. Bäumler (attacked by a desolate leach in the thicket) dropped a stone on a topofil thread and tied the location of Krem Put Lyer into the Krem Kotsati surface survey.
