Description
An inconvenient, bouldery and wet cave entrance and resurgence (note 1) gives access to a cave passage draining Krem –>Khuiang 1. SITUATION 2004: About 1 km [more likely: 500 to 600 m] along road to Dystang [sic! for: Daistong] from the Leten [sic! for: Litang; also: Leteiñ, Litien] bridge [N25°21'37”: E092°33'12” WGS84: 855 m asl] on left [difficult to read, something: water#### / watering? ca? beseen / be seen?], 30 m down from road, water flows out from boulder choke (Boycott 2004.02.16 Mss: -Resurgence …- 16/2/04) SITUATION 2005: The entrance lies about 10 m above and to the left of [sic! qua: in an unidentified spatial relation to] the resurgence which itself was understood to lie relatively … close [no distance mentioned] to the river and approximately 100 m downstream [or upstream?] from the bridge (Sheen 2005.03.01 Mss: Krem Khuiang- 1/03/05, 2005.08.20 Mss) on the road from Sutnga to Nongkhlieh and Daistong. SITUATION 2004b: 500 m E of Litien Bridge a small resurgence canbe seen below the road to the left about 100 m from the oval entrance is in the middle of 3 Ceres [levels?] at the resurgence (Boycott 2004.02.16 Mss: -Resurgence …- 16/2/04 as literally quoted as readeable). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2004: Several routes into the boulders can be followed for up to [estimated] 10 or 15 m (Boycott 2004.02.16 Mss: Resurgence …).CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005: Access is by climbing down through boulders and initially through collapse at stream level. The cave is a bedding plane [on] average 4 m [wide] by 1 m [high] hands and knees crawl [grade 2 squeeze] over cobbles with intermittent standing [note 2] in breakdown chambers. It continues after [estimated] 150 m as a sandy crawl and is strongly draughting out [one of the opposite entrances in one way or another] (Sheen 2005.03.01 Mss: Krem Khuinang; Sheen 2005.08.20 personal correspondence). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2006a: From middle level at resurgence drop down through boulders to stream level, then back up to bedding plane cral into sticky mud passage (occasionally [seasonally?] sumped). Decorated area on left. Stream continues low with some boulder squeezes to a chamber 15 m by 15 m by 2 m high. Wade through pool leads to larger passage 10 m by 15 m. After 20 m a 30 m skylight is passed (free climbable to 10 m from surface). Passage continues large past a low inlet sump to a smaller entrance partly blocked with stalagmited boulders, enters into shallow valley with paddy fields. (Boycott 2006.02.14 Mss -Krem Khuiang / Litang Bridge- as far as decipherable). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2006b: A through cave of 256 m at flood plain level (JARRATT 2006: 9). CAVE POTENTIAL: Somehow finished (Arbenz, T 2006.05.21 Abstracts.xls).l into sticky mud passage (occasionally [seasonally?] sumped). Decorated area on left. History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2004.02.16: Raplang Shangpliang guided Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Boycott, Antony 'Tony', Simon J. Brooks, Jayne Stead and Daniel 'Danny' Burks to the resurgence (Boycott 2004.02.16 Mss: 'Resurgence …' 16/2/04) where they visit the site on Monday 16/2/04 [Brooks, S J 2004 undated Mss: Amendment to Boycott 2004.02.16 Mss]. 2004.02.23: Carlyn Phyrngap, providing an (impromptu?) place and cave name, guided Robin Sheen and / or Boycott, Antony 'Tony' to the entrance (Arbenz, T 2005.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls). 2005.03.01: Robin Sheen (2005.03.01 Mss, 2005.08.20 Mss) negotiated the resurgence entrance and did some solo exploration. 2006.02.14: Boycott, Antony 'Tony' (2006.02.14 Mss), Jayne Stead and Hugh Penney 'surveyed' (JARRATT 2006: 9) to a degree yielding an accumulated tape length of 256 m at ± vertical range from resurgence to upper entrance ().
