Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A large open pot 23 m deep 25 m across and 20 m wide (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss: Krem Wah Sarok 3) that eventually connects to the cave system of Krem Liat Prah. SITUATION: McNally (2007.02.12 Mss) recommends, literally quoted to walk down from road GPS location N25/21/55.6 E092/32/07.5 on track ####### [weeping?, wedding?] drainage grime [or so] on left until [what was for a short time in spring 2007] a small flat level clearing is encountered the turn left for an easy decent to a large tree overhanging the shaft rig from tree. CAVE DESCRIPTION: McNally (2007.02.12 Mss) came across a sports training device that starts with a 23 m deep shaft rigged from large tree on S.W. side of pot follow short crawl at west corner of base to arrive at 30 m+ shaft strong gale at top of pitch descend 1/2 way down and traverse to left to enter top of aven of video passage in Krem Liat Prah. SPELEOMETRY: Arbenz, T (2008.01.20 Mss): Krem Wah Surok 3 contributed by March 2007 at a vertical range of -76.35 ma survey length of 332.88 m to the Labit Cave System (Krem –>Liat Prah).TACKLE: McNally (2007.02.12 Mss) suggests one entrance shaft 25 m needs 30+m with a sling rig from tree. CAVE CLIMATE: McNally (2007.02.12 Mss) observed in Krem Wah Surok 3 at an unidentified hour of the day an air current and recorded a strong gale without identified direction.

History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2007.02.06, trip 1: Boycott, Antony 'Tony' and Jayne Stead dicovered the entrance to Krem Wah Sarok 3 (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss: Krem Wah Sarok 3). 2007.02.07, trip 2: Peter Ludwig, Joe Duxbury and Desmond 'Des' MacNally descend and compiled 86.91 m of survey leg lengths (reaching a depth of 30.9 m in the entrance shaft and otherwise ignored side passages (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss). According to Brooks, S J et al. (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc), Boycott, Antony 'Tony' and Jayne Stead or Tony B and Jane showed Desmond McNally, Joe Duxbury and Peter Ludwig a.k.a. Des, Joe and Peter L the entrance to Krem Wah Sarok 3, before walking back to camp … Des, Joe and Peter L. rigged two pitches in Krem Wah Sarok 3 - still ongoing. According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007): Des, Joe and Peter L. rigged two pitches in Krem Wah Sarok 3. 2007.02.08, trip 3: P. Ludwig, J.H. Duxbury and D. MacNally descend through flor down a '2nd Pitch' and crawl to the top of a 'Draftng Pitch' at the side of the entrance pot arriving at a survey length of 176.81 m and a depth of -49.41 m (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss): Joe, Des and Peter L. returned to Krem Wah Sarok 3 and surveyed to the bottom of the second pitch. They climbed a blind aven off the final chamber, then pushed a steaming crawl to the head of a pitch (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). 2007.02.09, trip 4: P. Ludwig, J. Duxbury, Brian Cullen and D. McNally descend a draughting 36 m pitch. Duxbury and Cullen push a choke to enter the 'Video Passage' in Krem Liat Prah, pushing an accumulated survey tape length to 234.48 m at a relative depth of 70.34 m (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss): Peter L, Brian C, Joe and Des returned to Krem Wah Sarok 3 and descended the draughting pitch. Brian C and Joe pushed a boulder choke and found a large passage beyond, which they think may be Video Passage in Krem Liat Prah (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). 2007.02.11, trip 5: P. Ludwig, B. Culln and Quentin 'Cooper' Cowper bolt a traverse in a 'Big Pitch', descend into 'Video Passage' and complete the survey with having a compiled 283.8 m of survey tape lengths (McNally 2007.02.12 Mss). According to Brooks, S J et al. (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc), Peter L, Brian C and Quentin connected Krem Wah Sarok 3 and finished surveying to Video passage in Liat Prah. The survey station in Video Passage was not numbered, but is apparently known. According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007), Sunday 11th saw Peter L, Brian C. and Quentin finishing the Wah Sarok 3 survey. 2007.02.12, trip 6: Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt and Henry Rockcliff descended Krem Wah Sarok 3 and re-rigged the 2nd pitch which drops into Video Passage. They then went to look at one of the side passages before the sump which was completely different to the survey (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007), Henry R. and the writer checked out Video Passage in the hop of connecting with K.L. (M). 3 [Krem Labit, Moolasngi] but were confused by the old survey which bore little resemblance to the passages entered. 2007.02.13, trip 7: Frazer, Neil and Brian C. de-rigged Krem Labbit Moolasgni, Krem Wah Sarok 3 and Krem Wah Sning and did some filming (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). 2007.02.22, trip 8: Ian McKenzie, Anthony 'Tony' Jarratt and Neil Pacey went into video passage in Krem Liat Prah via Krem Wah Sarok 3 and checked the right hand branch at the end of the survey, which was described as total fiction, but picked up Robin and Brian C’s survey stations from Krem Wah Sning. And then exited the main Krem Liat Prah entrance, making it the first cross ridge through trip (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007), The writer, Ian and Neil revisited Video Passage in Krem Liat Prah via Krem Wah Sarok 3 - fully intent on sorting out the fictional survey but were gobsmacked when they realised that survey stations found wereof very recent origin and that they had unwittingly connected with Krem Wah Sning – link number nine of this very lucky Expedition! Not trusting a rope protector on the big pitch they left Liat Prah by the main entrance having completed the first through-Ridge trip in the lower part of the system. 2007.02.23, trip 9: Robin F. Sheen, D. McNally, I. McKenzie and N. Pacey went into Krem Wah Sarok 3 to resurvey yesterdays finds. They discovered that the section of Video Passage they were in didn’t end in an aven, it connected to Krem Wah Sning in the mid level crawls. They derigged Krem Wah Sarok 3 (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007), Robin, Des, Ian and Neil descended Krem Wah Sarok 3 to survey and confirm the link to Krem Wah Sning from Video Passage in Krem Liat Prah. 2008.02.06, trip 10: Des and Sharon went to rig Krem Wah Sarok 3. They were unable to drop the last pitch due to a dodgy bolt and the lack of a drill (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 008 diary' Wednesday 6th February). 2008.02.10, trip 11: Henry and Guillaume went down Krem Wah Sarok 3 to the sump at the end of Video Passage in Liat Prah. At the same time Robin, Anne and Jrat went to the upstream sump in KLM [Krem Labit, Moolesngi 3] to see if a connection was possible. It turned out that the channel dug on the 5th to lower the sump had worked and both groups were able to talk to each other through a one inch airspace. A tape was floated through and it was found to be a 3 m long duck, which Robin dived to connect the caves. This made the Krem Liat Prah System 30347.42 m long (Brown et al. 2008 Mss 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Sunday 10th February). Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
