CRAB CLAW CAVE (aa -)
25.326700,92.491800
Description
Two cave entrances without identified shape and dimensions face an unexplainable direction and give access to the phantom of a pothole cave inside which Roger Galloway and Rhys Williams observed eroded stal (speleothems) and the spectre of lengthwise measurable distances (note 1) reminiscent of theoretically addable lengths (note 2) and reported no apparent connection to Krem –>Risang. Roger Galloway (2001.02.12 Mss - - 12/02/01) understood Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin / The crab claw cave to represent a mindboggling overflow for surface stream independent of any other systems still active in the wet season. IDENTITY: Unknown. This allegedly -surveyed- cave is but a phantom and needs to be adequately surveyed because there are NO data in the database (ARBENZ, T 2008 Mss -Fieldbook- 20). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what cave encroachers simply dubbed -Crab Claw Cave- but disguised as a Pseudokhasi -Krem Tham Tyrsim- (note 3) and successully corrupted not only into a mis-spelled Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin (Galloway 2001.02.12 Mss: Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin / The crab claw cave 12/02/01) but also into an inexplicable Krem Kathamthy [sic!] or Crab Claw Cave -- So far as I know this is one and the same … (Brown, M W 2001.06.17 personal correspondence). SETTING: On the western flank of the Shnongrim Ridge and below the road from Ladmyrsiang to Nongkhlieh. The cave entrance lies just below the rim of the caprock (Kopili Shales) in the often reddish coloured Lower Miocene Kopili Limestone that transgredes into generally grey coloured Upper Eocene Prang Limestone. SITUATION: Krem Kathamty (sic!) is located south of the 1st junction (without GPS position) and, if ascending eastwards along the road, after the cement works tea shop (Brown, M W 2001.06.17 personal correspondence). APPROACH: From the junction to Umthe on the Ladmyrsiang to Nongkhlieh Ridge road continue around the bottom of the hill going south to the first valley N25°19$*35.2-: E092°29'21.3-. Go up the dry river bed and 30 m after the band of karst pinnacles the cave lies in the RH side (Galloway 2001.02.12 Mss: Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin / The crab claw cave 12/02/01). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Roger Galloway (2001.02.12 Mss) plays the cunning card and misleads with recommending to See survey when he produced not even a trace survey (note 4). CAVE CONTENTS: Canals, eroded stal, cobbles of reddish sandstone and limestone, on the floor level mostly grey limestone above but sometimes red sandstone limestone (Roger Galloway 2001.02.12 Mss). CAVE LIFE: Frogs and big spiders at both entrances. White fish 7 to 8 cm, crayfish 5 cm (Galloway 2001.02.12 Mss). Keywords: Arachnida: Aranea: conf. Heteropoda. Crustacea: Decapoda. conf. Anura. Pisces indet.ully corrupted not only into a mis-spelled Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin (Galloway 2001.02.12 Mss: Krem Ka Tham Thyrsin / The crab claw cave 12/02/01) but also into an inexplicable Krem Kathamthy [sic!] or Crab Claw Cave -- So far as I know this is one and the same … (Brown, M W 2001.06.17 personal correspondence). History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2001.02.11, trip 1: Harald 'Harry' Kirsamer and Roger Galloway discovered the cave and reported to have 'surveyed' (sportsmen standards) 47 m of survey to a degree yielding a total of lengthwise estimated metres. 2001.02.12, trip 2: Roger Galloway and Rhys Williams 'surveyed' (tape spotter standards) 359.5 m to a degree yielding addable numbers.2008.02.06, trip 3: Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Elizabeth 'Liz' Stead, and Jayne Stead … went to find Crab Claw Cave but gave up after two hours searching (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: 6th February). A team (Boycott, Stead, Stead) failed to locate the cave due to heavy quarying in the area (Arbenz, T 2008 Mss 'Fieldbook' 20).
