Description
A pothole (Brooks 2006 undated Mss amendments to Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2), which was initially called Krem Kya 5 but later named Krem Um Manong 2 (note 1), descends to a crawl too tight and was -surveyed- (estimated) to a depth of 35 m (Arbenz, T 2006.05.21 Mss: Abstracts.xls). SITUATION: According to Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt (in: Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2) the first Krem Um Manong lies at somewhere on the SE slope of Lum Manar, Shnongrim. Best approach is from footpath to Krem Iawe. Jarratt (2006.03.04 Mss -Cave Log- 13 entry 9/2/06) confirms that this cave lies somewhere on the wooded SE face of Lum Manar. CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (Furlong in: Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2): Deleted: 1st c 10 m rift 1st pitch 10 m. 2nd pitch 25 m ends on boulders leading down to low tight wet crawling passage that becomes too tight to continue. Passage hedding in [delted: and] an easterly direction. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2 (Jarratt 2006.03.04 Mss -Cave Log- 13 entry 10/2/06): A split 10 m ladder pot to a SRT pot ending too tight and wet. CAVE DESCRIPTION 3 (JARRATT 2006: 7): A tight, wet passage to an impasse at -35 m. CAVE DESCRIPTION 4 (JARRATT 2006: 20): Krem Um Manong 2 yielded a length of 35 m at a depth of 35 m. CAVE DESCRIPTION 5 (Brown et al. 2006 Mss): At an estimated epth of 35 m below the entrance, Imogen explored a low tight and wet passage at the bottom until it became too tight.TACKLE: Jarratt (in: Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss) advises to use 15 m + 30 m SRT + belays. PROSPECTS: Furlong (in: Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2) states Light draft [sic!] but passage on too tight. Completed. Brooks (2006 undated Mss amendments to Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss) opines that the prospects for extending the cave survey and exploration are minimal. CAVE CLIMATE: Furlong (in: Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2) came at an an unspecified hour of the day across a light draft (air current) without specified flow direction. anonymous Brown, Mark W. et al. 2006) confirms that Imogen noticed a light draught out. CAVE LIFE: Imogen Furlong (Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2) noticed Shrimp. Both white [pale] and coloured. Also observed white [pale] woodlice. (Crustacea: conf. Palaemonida; Isopoda). Brown et al. (2006 Mss) arrived at understanding that the water was full of cave shrimp, both white and coloured.Mss: Krem [deleted: Kya no. 5] Um Manong 2) came at an an unspecified hour of the day across a light draft (air current) without specified flow direction. anonymous Brown, Mark W. et al. 2006) confirms that Imogen noticed a light draught out. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2006.02.09: Evermore Sukhlain guides Anthony 'Tony' R. Jarrat and Neil Pacey to what they consider Krem Kya 5. Jarratt (2006.03.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 9/2/06) narrates how they followed Evermore to see some new caves he had found. We skirted the wooded SE face of Lum Manar and were shown eleven promising pots [Kya 4, Pastor 1, Pastor 2, Pastor 3, Pastor 4, Pastor 5, poh Um Manong 1, Um Manong 2, poh Um Manong 2, poh Um Manong 3, Tyrtong Warim]. … At Krem Um Manong 2 Evermore cut down a banana tree and gave us bananas for lunch. A good lad. … Tomorrow we will drop a few the new pots. A relatively quiet night at camp followed … JARRATT (2006: 7) confirms: Shnongrim cow boy, Evermore, pointed out 11 new sites. Many of these were dropped on the 10th .2006.02.10: Imogen Furlong, Annie U. Audsley and Peter Ludwig (Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss) descend, explore and survey (Brooks 2006 undated Mss mendments to Furlong & Jarratt 2006.02.09 Mss). Jarratt (200603.04 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XIII: 10/2/06) narrates how Terry [Terence M. Whitaker], Jane [Jayne Stead] and I went to Krem Um Manong 2 where Terry laddered a split pot for 10 m to report an SRT pitch beyond. This was later explored by Imogen and Annie but also became too tight. Brown et al. (2006 Mss): Friday 10th February … Imogen, Annie and Peter dropped … Krem Um Manong 2 … to a depth of 35 m, where Imogen explored a low tight and wet passage at the bottom until it became too tight. The water was full of cave shrimp, both white and coloured and there was a light draught out.
