TYNRONG PHUD KHONGPONG (Krem)
25.250000,91.333300
Description
An unspecified cave, which either lies on the Phud Khongpong or takes this stream. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the Khasi cave name -Krem Tynrong Phud Khongpong- was not discovered and its meaning was poorly understood (note 1) but specifies the name of the Headlong Mountain Stream (see: Krem –>Phud Khongpong) with the word -tynrong- for to carry something on the head, to put over on the top of something, and to lighten the load of a friend by taking a portion on oneself (SINGH, N 1906: 240). The apparently alternative but only corrupted cave name -Krem Bhad Khonglong- (ALLISON KOSIOR 2004b: 16) is problematic insofar as there exist no Khasi words like -bhad- or -khonglong- (note 2). SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere on Lum Iawpaw, the hill above Nongnah (N25°15'57”: E091°19'33”: 1020 m asl WGS84). Zawada (21.04.2004 Mss, 24.04.2004 Mss) told me that the cave entrance to Krem Tynrong Phud Khongpong had been GPS positioned at ??????????????? (literally quoted ifteen question marks). CAVE DESCRIPTION (WARREN 2004: 251): A small cave at 168 meters.ifteen question marks). CAVE DESCRIPTION (WARREN 2004: 251): A small cave at 168 meters.
