Description
A comparatively small stream without comparison for scale understood Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Um Suba) to sink into what appears to a pot which, at a first glance, can be estimated to be initially about 10 m deep. SITUATION: Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Um Suba) placed the cave entrance at an unspecified location somewhere on the eastern flank of the Shnongrim ridge. Brooks (2005.02.21 Mss: Meghalaya Diary, Monday 21) places Krem Umsuba somewhere in an undefined Manar area. According to the recorded GPS position (R. F. Sheen 2003.02.22, GPS Garmin Etrex), Krem Umsuba lies at a linear distance of 230 m aproximately east-southeast of Krem –>Kor. APPROACH: (after Sheen 2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Um Suba): Somewhere To reach the site, take a route from a spot in Shnongrim village and choose a track down in a direction. Follow for some distance to an unspecified area, turning left or right whenever it is suitable. The site is found somewhere near a certain spot on the way to some place or anoter and lies in an area characterised by its own peculiar features. PROSPECTS: Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss) expressively points out that the seeing the sink of Um Suba is Not very exiting. May provide access to a system combining Krem –>Synrang Labit and Krem –>Synrang Ngap. Brooks (2005.02.21 Mss: Meghalaya Diary, Monday 21): Krem Umsuba looks promising.

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2003.02.28: Raplang Shangpliang guided Robin F. Sheen to the cave entrance of Krem Um Suba (Sheen 2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Um Suba). 2005.02.21: Robin went with Hyporme [i.e. Heipormi Pajuh] and Menda [also: Mendar / Mende Syieh] to the Manar area (old Shnongrim). Here there was an old hill fort (thought to be the old Jaintia capital). Nearby he found Krem Umsuba, which looks promising … (Brooks 2005.02.21 Mss: Meghalaya Diary, Monday 21).
