Description
A 1.5 m by 3 m wide pothole, about 15 m deep (Kharpran Daly 2004.02.25 Mss: Krem Syntoin). ETYMOLOGY: The meaning of the recorded cave name -Krem Syntoin- (Kharpran Daly 2004.02.25 Mss) has not yet been discovered (note 1). The desire to corrupt the original cave name into a Krem Syngon Shaft (Brooks et al 2010.03.29 Mss: Survey summary.xls) has been explained (note 2) but makes no sense (note 3). SITUATION 1: Kharpran Daly (2004.02.25 Mss): From Sem Masi (Samasi) I.B. [N25°24'01.6”: E092°32'57.4” WGS84, A. Boycott 2004.02] 300 m up the rough unmetalled road towards Saipung [note 4], the pothole lies just beside the left-hand side of the road where the limestone outcrop ends and a visible shortcut track leads down the hill to the I.B. and village below. According to the recorded GPS position, the cave entrance to Krem Syntoin lies 416.9 m in a direct line approximately east (65 m north, 412 m east) from the Samasi Inspection Bungalow CAVE DESCRIPTION: None reported. PROSPECTS 2004 Sheen, Robin F. (note 5) declared Krem Syntoing simply as fully surveyet (sic!) and Brooks, Simon J. (undated 2004 Mss amendment to Kharpran Daly 25.02.2004 Mss) as not explored. PROSPECTS 2010: Hellie, Imo, Estelle and David noticed to end blind (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 13 February 2010-02-12). Brooks, Simon J et al (2010.03.29 Mss: Survey summary.xls) lists 13.02.2010 (date) along with Krem Syngon Shaft (sic!), IF, ES, HB, DM and 40 (survey 2010).A 1.5 m by 3 m wide pothole, about 15 m deep (Kharpran Daly 2004.02.25 Mss: Krem Syntoin). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2004.02.17: Bikin Paslein, the Samasi Village Headman (phone number 215621) told the cave name Krem Syntoin to Brian D. Kharpran Daly and Jayne Stead (2004.02.17 Mss: Krem Tyngheng + other caves in Sem Masi Area). 2004.02.25, trip 1: Brian D. Kharpran Daly (2004.02.25 Mss: Krem Syntoin), guided by Bikin Paslein, read and recorded a GPS position near the cave entrance to Krem Syntoin. Robin F. Sheen (in: Kharpran Daly (2004.02.25 Mss: Krem Syntoin signed Robin Sheen undated) points out that Sheen [deleted: Tony Boycott], J Steat [i.e. Jayne Stead], B Daly, D Burke, (surveyed) but this is humbug and not the case. 2010.02.13, trip 2: After a lapse of mere six years, Hellen Brooke, Imogen Furlong, Estelle Sandford and David Cooke took up exercising futility, descended both Krem Syntoin and Krem –>Priang Rong for nothing but arrived at understanding, at least in parts, to end blind (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 13 February 2010-02-12). Sanford (2010.04.16 Mss: Caves 'n' Corals: 13th February) discovered to have A day spent in the Sumasi [sic!] area with Hellie, Imo and David dropping a few shafts that had been noted in previous years. Both Krem Syntoin and Krem Priang Rong yielded very little cave.
