Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

At least eight cave entrances give access to more than 500 m of a maze cave passages in a senile state of cave development, which possibly represent the relic of a subterranean estuary, now at a perched location and abandoned by flowing water. The floor of the orthagonal cluster of cave passages is covered with sand. SITUATION: An estimated 20 m vertically above the current level of the river bed of the Khimrang stream, a tributary of the Rompa (Rompha) River, and in upper Imandura village, which lies about 0.5 km in a direct line north of the Asakgre I.B. (Inspection Bungalow, N25°20'16.6”: E090°30'51.0” (±5.5 m, WGS84): 230 m asl GPS). CAVE LIFE: Crickets (Orthoptera) and large spiders (Aranaea, Arachnida, Sparassidae, Heteropodina, conf. Heteropoda spp.).

Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2002.02.08: Blen, Erok and Hellindro Marak of Asakgre village guided two survey teams to the cave entrance. H. D. Gebauer, Lindsay B. Diengdoh and Peter Ludwig mapped 257 m (40 legs) in the upstream section, while Mark W. Brown, Jörg Dreybrodt and Annie U. Audsley surveyed 273 m (24 legs) in the downstream section --just before the latter took the very next helicopter that would rescue them from a karst and cave area where no beer had been available for 24 consecutive hours.
