Hammam (Ghar)

The -Steam- Bath Cave- (a made-up field-name?, note 1) is a solitary, steeply ascending, rift cave (27 m long, and about 1 m wide). SITUATION: Close to Ghar –>Kelidan and high up in a ravine (without identified name) which is cut into a hill of probably jurassic limestone, the Kuh-e / Kohe Bibicheh Baran (note 2), which lies at a distance of approximately 30 km west-north-west of Farah town (N32°22'37”: E62°07'10” WGS84). CAVE CONTENTS: Water runs across one cave wall. Without concretions (secondary calcite deposits, speleothems). A cave floor covered with soil and stones. CAVE CLIMATE: An air temperature of 28°C was measured on 27th April 1958 at the entrance and 24°C in the interior. 85% humidity. CAVE LIFE: LINDBERG (1958: 127) collected Isopoda, Formicida, Coleoptera (Tenebrionidae), Diptera (Sciaridae, Phorida, larvae), Arachnida (Araneidae) and noticed some bat guano indicating absent bats (Chiroptera).The -Steam- Bath Cave- (a made-up field-name?, note 1) is a solitary, steeply ascending, rift cave (27 m long, and about 1 m wide).
