Description
A cave (note 1) between large detached limestone boulders and gravitationally (or tectonically?) enlarged rifts. CAVE DESCRIPTION: A 3.5 by 1 m wide ante-chamber with a 3 m long and slightly descending passage (upon entering on the left-hand side), which ends in a small chamber and crevisses. Another passage (on the right-hand side) is slightly ascending for 5 or 6 m and ends in fissures and a chimney. The cave contains a few speleothems / calcite deposits (concrétion). The cave's floor is covered with soil and rock. SITUATION: Somewhere in Kabul town and close to a water reservoir which LINDBERG (1958: 112) calls Bala Koh (upper hill) and places at Deh Afghanan (note 2). CAVE CLIMATE: Humid. 17°C interior cave temperature, 27°C in the entrance (13 July 1957). CAVE LIFE: LINDBERG (1958: 112) collected Collembola, Coleoptera (Carabida, Staphylinida, Cryptophagida), Formicida, and Diptera (Phorides). JUBERTHIE & DECU (2001: 1747) list Insecta: Coleoptera: Pterostichinae: Laemostenus rgrevanensis COIFFAIT.grevanensis COIFFAIT.
