Description
Several rock shelters with rock art are known to the people at Sonauri, a village about 2 km approximately east of the stupa at Sanchi. The shelters (up to 4 m deep) originate from differential weathering of stratified and occasionally cross-bedded sandstone. The rock art (cave paintings in red pigment) show elephants, warriors and horned -cows- with patterned bodies (x-ray style), etc.
