Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said (Sheen 2003.02.16 Mss: Krem Synrang Moo …), literally quoted, to lead to a series of many staggered pitches, some semi-free climbable, to enter large stream passage. [The] Series of staggered pitches down through boulders leads to head of a deep pot, also staggered, to enter a large stream passage. Connects into downstream Krem Krang [deleted Moo] Maw. ETYMOLOGY: The apparently private cave name -Synrang Moo- translates as Cave of the Nest / Den of Stones or, if you prefer, Cave at Home in Rock. CAVE POTENTIAL: Sheen (2003.02.16 Mss: Krem Synrang Moo …) misleads by claiming Krem Synrang Mu is Fully surveyed and finished [sic!] when actually exploration was given up in the face of a possibly diveable sump at terminus downstream. SITUATION: At an unknown location. Sheen (2003.02.16 Mss: Krem Synrang Moo …) leads into thick fog by commanding to Followridge with prominent electricity pole down to jungle. POSITIONS: AA Cave 6 N25°20'44.4-: E92°30'40.0- (±11m, M. Laumanns 2002.02.16, Garmin 12): 1059 m asl. AA Cave L N25°20'44.4”: E92°30'40.0” (without EPE, Sheen, undated 2002.02.21?, Garmin Etrex). K. Krang Mu 1 N25°20'43.7-: E92°30'39.4- (without EPE, anonymous recorder, undated 2003 Feb. ?). K. Synrang Mu N25°20'43.9”: E92°30'39.5” (±11, Sheen, 2003.02.23, Garmin Etrex). average position N25°20'44.2-: E92°30'39.8- (±125 m, WGS84). CAVE LIFE: KOTTELAT, HARRIES & PROUDLOVE (2007: 43 table 2) list Krem Synrang Moo among the caves in the Sutnga area (sic!) in which Daniel B. Harries saw in February 2003 the cave dwelling, nemacheilid loach Schistura prob. papulifera (Pisces: Teleostei: Balituridae) to be common in streamway. HARRIES et al. (2008 figure 23 H) give a photograph showing Schistura papulifera (Krem Krang Mawm 2003).

Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2002.02.16: Michael Laumanns, Daniel B. Harries and Robin F. Sheen visited 'No.6', later called Cave L (later: Pineapple Cave or, khasified, Thloo Soh Thrun). 2002.02.21: Robin F. & Ruben Sheen, Brian Khyriem and Bat Kupar Lyngwa visited and entered Cave L. 2003.02.16: Robin F. Sheen, Daniel B. Harries and Nigel Robertson surveyed 152.2 m: Dan, Fiona, Robin and Nigel go to 'Cave L'. This has 30m of small entrance pitches to large boulder chambers with four undescended shafts. A return planned (Brooks, S J, Diary 2003.doc). 2003.02.17: R. F. Sheen, Daniel B. Harries, N. Robertson, Fiona J. Ware and Annie U. Audsley surveyed 358.13 m: Dan, Fiona Nigel and Robin return to 'Cave L' - now called Pineapple Pot – and survey 150m of broken pitches to emerge in 200m of fine river passage ongoing in both directions. Upstream there is a massive boulder blocking the passage that they cannot climb. Later that evening, after plotting the survey data it becomes obvios that this is the same boulder that stopped the Krang Moo team! The combined system is over 2km in length. This major success proves the accuracy of GPS and the surveying teams. That evening suitable celebrations follow [Brooks, S J, Diary 2003.doc]. 2003.02.18: R. Sheen, Daniel B. Harries, N. Robertson, Fiona J. Ware and Annie U. Audsley claimed to have surveyed 224.5 m: Nigel, Dan and Fiona return to Pineapple Pot where they survey up to the connection with Krang Moo. Andreas, Fraser and Robin descend Krang Moo with them to video the event. All then go downstream to video and survey. A massive roof collapse is passed and the stream regained but a sump unfortunately stops further progress. The cave still needs tidying up and derigging. The current length is 2.162 km with a depth of 122 m [Brooks, S J, Diary 2003.doc]. 2003.02.21: Daniel B. Harries, N. Robertson, Fiona J. Ware and Derek Pettiglio surveyed 430.57 m. 2003.02.22: Andreas Neumann, Peter Ludwig and Nicola Bayley surveyed 6.18 m (total: 1241.41 m). Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
