Description
An allegedly 26 m deep pothole, which is climbable by chimneying and back and footing V.D.C., is connected to –>Dajong Rongkol 1b (Colin Rogers 2001.03.21 personal communication). Compare –>AA Cave (Siju) and –>AA Cave (Siju Songmong). SITUATION: There are rapids in the River Simsang at an unspecified distance upstream of Siju Cave (i.e. –>Dobhakol, Siju) and the Inspection Bungalow. Some 400 m upstream of these rapids, there is a seasonal island and a collapsed cliff on the left (eastern) bank. These mark the position of three cave features (note 1). The first cave (Dajong Rongkol 2) lies about 37 m (paced) from the river. The second (Dajong Rongkol 1b) lies another 39 m further away. The main entrance to Dajong Rongkol lies at the side of a jungle trail path. ADVENTURE POTENTIAL: Due to tiger and elephant, it is not advisable to visit Dajong Rongkol at night. Possibly the greatest hazards, however, are the deceptively crumbly rocks and unstable ruckles of boulders in eroded cliffs. rossing the water by dugout canoe --a surprisingly unstable craft-- the fishermen are consummate acrobats as they stand on a platform as unstable as a tightrope (Colin Rogers 2001.03.21 personal communication).rossing the water by dugout canoe --a surprisingly unstable craft-- the fishermen are consummate acrobats as they stand on a platform as unstable as a tightrope (Colin Rogers 2001.03.21 personal communication).

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1995 November / December: Guided by an unidentified forest guide (without identified name), Lindsay B. Diengdoh and Kyrmen 'Hope' C Hiwot Passah chartered a dugout canoe to ferry Boycott, Antony 'Tony', Jennifer 'Jenni' or 'Jenny' A. Brooks from Siju Songmong (one of the lower Siju village) across the Simsang River. Somewhere on the opposite (east / orographically left) bank of the river, they visited a limestone outcrop at and found no obviously enterable passages. According to BROOKS et al. (1998: 15), … Tony, Jenni, Lindsay and Kiaman [sic!], accompanied by a forest guide, [who] crossed the Simsang River to investigate the karst area to the east of Siju. In this area some spectacular karst scenery was found but no obvious caves. 2001.02.21 (circa): Colin Rogers, accompanying Adora Thabah and Andrew 'Andy' Peter Tyler, sketched the entrance area of Dajong Rongkol 1a and 1b.
