One of initially five or several shafts (note 1) and later four more shafts of which the sight of the entrances had been looked at. In one preliminary analysis based on very high velocity glancing, the deepest of these was measured at -21m and would be worth a closer inspection (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 18th February). ETYMOLOGY: The initially recorded cave names Krem Sintung and Krem Sim/Tung (Brooks, S J 2010.02.18 Mss: Krem [deleted: Sintung] Sim/Tung 1 (shaft) 18/2/10) represent developping degrees of a mistake (note 2). The corrected cave name -Krem Sim Tung- (Arbenz, T 2010.03.31 cave distribution map: Pala_Ridge_4-10.pdf) translates as Cave [of the] Stinking / Putrid Smelling Bird (SINGH, N 1906: 204; 1920: 47). Actually intended, however, had been a Smelly Bird Shaft (Brooks, S J 2010.02.18 Mss: Krem [deleted: Sintung] Sim/Tung 1 (shaft) 18/2/10) or, in Synteng Khasi (Pnar), a -thlu- (pothole, pit, shaft) instead of a -krem- (cave) that ought o be named either, if the cave smells of bird, -Thlu Syndot Sim- in the sense of a pothole having the peculiar smell of a bird (note 3) or, if it is the bird itself, which smells unpleasant, a -Thlu Sim Iwtung- or -Thlu Sim [ba] Sma- and the like (note 4). The alternatively recorded cave name -Krem Sintung- (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 18th February) is quite bizarre insofar as it translates as Cave [of] To Nickname (SINGH, N 1906: 204) either the Stinking, Putrid-Smelling as such or, for that matter, the Evil Smelling Month of July (note 5). SITUATION 2010a: Brooks, S J (2010.02.18 Mss: Krem [deleted: Sintung] Sim Tung 1 (shaft)- dated 18/2/10) draws the attention of the speleological world to having created a circular reference according to which the Sim Tung Shaft is located in an efficiently offhand created but unspecified [deleted: Sintung] Sim/Tung Area (Bingo!), which is defined as the area where the Sim Tung caves are located in the Sim Tung area which itself is defined as the area where the Sim Tung caves are located -- and so on and on and on (note 6). Here, the cave entrance to the first noticed Sim Tung Shaft was found in a spatial relation represented as a so-called closed valley where 2nd Rib Cave exits -west side but also, believe it or not, at a spot which is a spot at a place which is a place or, literally quoted, GPS is waypoint in the tautological sense of -the GPS position is a waypoint- (note 7). SITUATION 2010b: Anonymous et al. (2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 18th February) places the five several shafts collectively to the North West of nowhere special and without identified spatial relation to each other. SITUATION 2010c: For a short time, Arbenz, T (2010.03.31 cave distribution map: Pala_Ridge_4-10.pdf) had indicated the location of the entrance to Krem Sim Tung 1 erroneously (note 8) near N25°26'25”: E092°35'40”: 788 m asl (WGS84) and thus 1.6 km in a direct line approximately ENE (0.65 km noth, 1.5 km east) from the central road junction in the village of Umkyrpong (25°26'04”N: 92°34'47”E) and at a linear distance of 120 m or 130 m in a direct line north-east of the entrance to Krem –>Sim Tung 2.
