Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is the only known upper cave entrance to Krem –>Wah Shikar and was understood to represent a more or less large swallet [note 1] at the base of a cliff giving access to circa 450 m of calcited streamway entering Wah Shikar via a duck (Sheen, R F 2005.02.20 Mss: Krem Brisang; Sheen, R F 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05). Secondary calcite formations (speleothems) gave the impression of being present. ETYMOLOGY: No specific cave name has been identified for what was called -Krem Brisang, Mulait- or Recently Cleared Woodland Cave at [the village called after] the Rock of Mistakes. The Khasi -ka bri- (noun) signifies a grove, an estate, a farm while the verb -s'ang- is a short form of -syang- and means to roast, to toast (SINGH, N 1906: 180, 14). Needless to say that such a -roasted grove- is a short lived geographical feature: A piece of -jhumed- forest that hasbeen slashed and burned to be cultivated soon. The Synteng / Pnar Khasi noun -u mu- is the same as the standard Khasi -u maw- and signifies a rock, a stone and -ka lait- is the word for a mistake (SINGH, N 1906: 109). Jarratt?). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005c: Among the karst 2 small climbs down and then chest deep in cold water. The passages are fairly narrow and wet, ranging from having to duck to just downright deep. … The passaes were well decorated, impressive stals and calcite [note 4] (YUEN, L 2005: 53). Histoire
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2005.02.16: Robin F. Sheen located the entrance (Sheen, R F 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05) and followed a stream bed down to a sink -- Krem Brisang (Brooks, S J et al. 2005: Mss Meghalaya Diary). 2005.02.17: Robin F. Sheen, G. Marshall and Fraser E. Simson surveyed (Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05) the first 139.60 m (Brooks 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary): Robin, Graham, Fraser went to Krem Brisang and surveyed 139.6 m downstream in a well decorated walking passage (Brooks, S J et al. 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary).2005.02.18: R.F. Sheen and Christain W. Fischer surveyed 254.26 m (Brooks 2005.10.05: Mss Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary; Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05): Robin and Christian surveyed 254 m (Brooks 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary). 2005.02.18: Quentin [Quentin 'Cooper' Cowper], Robin, Lesley [note 6] and Graham connected Krem Brisang into Krem Wah Shikar then investigated the upstream boulder choke (Brooks 2005: Mss: Meghalaya Diary). 200.02.20: R.F. Sheen, G. Marshall and Thomas Arbenz concluded surveying the last 190.70 m (Brooks 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary) and tied this Krem Brisang (at Moolait near Shnongrim) into the Krem Wah Shikar cave system (Brooks 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary; Sheen 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05). Survey total: 444.96 m / ±41.09 m (-41.09 m).
