Description
The free-climbable upper entrance to Krem –>Wah Ryngo needs a 10 m rope or ladder to descend the otherwise unsafe climb down into the sinkhole, which, however, is twice as deep as it consists of an estimated 20 m deep free climbable 20 m shaft emerging in a dry streambed at the base of a cliff and drops down to a larger, cobble floored passage (up to 6 m wide and 3 m high) which eventually leads to the 250 m Junction in Krem –>Wah Ryngo (Brooks 2000.05.31 Mss: Krem Wah Ryngo). ETYMOLOGY: -Krem Khongreng- translates as Cave Reminiscent of a Horn or Antler as the Khasi -khong- means resembling, taking the likeness off and -ka reng- is a horn, an antler (SINGH, N 1906: 34, 171). Brooks (2000.05.31 Mss: Krem Wah Ryngo) preferred the field name -Monkey Shit Cave- but this would be something along the lines of a Krem Eit Shrieh. SITUATION: The cave entrance to Krem Khongreng (note 1) lies either A) according to the cave survey at a linear distance of 300 m in a direct line approximately eas (085°) from the resurgence entrance to Krem Wah Ryngo (note 2) or B) according to the GPS records at a linear distance of 337.66 m (269.0 m East & 204.2 m South) south-west (225°) from the resurgence entrance to Krem Wah Ryngo. CAVE LIFE: Since cave encroachers turned up with the field name -Monkey Shit entrance- (Brooks 2000.05.31 Mss: Wah Ryngo) one is tempted to presume the occasional presence of unspecified monkeys (note 3).The free-climbable upper entrance to Krem –>Wah Ryngo needs a 10 m rope or ladder to descend the otherwise unsafe climb down into the sinkhole, which, however, is twice as deep as it consists of an estimated 20 m deep free climbable 20 m shaft emerging in a dry streambed at the base of a cliff and drops down to a larger, cobble floored passage (up to 6 m wide and 3 m high) which eventually leads to the 250 m Junction in Krem –>Wah Ryngo (Brooks 2000.05.31 Mss: Krem Wah Ryngo). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1998 February 17: Raibok Patlong reported the name Krem Khongrang to Brian D. Kharpran Daly in company with Simon J. Brooks, Georg Bäumler, Richard Frank, Herbert Jantschke, Christine Jantschke, Michael 'Mike' Zawada and Zuala Ralsun. 2000.02.22: Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt, Tom Chapman and R. Galloway 'surveyed' (tape spotter standards) to a degree yielding a sum of lengthwise measured distances in SSE area of Krem –>Wah Ryngo … to arrive below a large, dry river sink entrance in the jungle. Tom climbed out of this and with the aid of a rope we joined him … (Jarratt 2000.02.22 Mss: Meghalaya Cave Log 2000: 22/2/00). 2000.02.23: Anthony 'Tony' R. Jarratt, T. Chapman, R. Galloway and George Nongklaw entered Krem –>Wah Ryngo via Krem Khongreng entrance to complete their exercise in futility called 'survey' (Jarratt 2000.02.22 Mss: Meghalaya Cave Log 2000: 23/2/00).
