Description
A relic cave passage with large exposed stal (speleothems) believes Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Soh Lyluait) to contain what looks like a c 20 m deep pot. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi noun ”u soh” is a fruit (SINGH, N 1906: 206; OLDHAM, T 1854 / 1984 appendix C: lxvi) and the Khasi verb ”soh” means not only to bear fruit but also to cling, to adhere (SINGH, N 1906: 206). On the other hand, -lyluait- (Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Soh Lyluait) is not identified unless it is a corruption of the Khasi interjection ”léwlit!” and means beware!; attention! (SINGH, N 1906: 115); in German: Achtung. SITUATION: Probably somewhere on the eastern flank of the Shnongrim ridge below Shnongrim village and at an unknown location, which Sheen (2003.02.28 Mss: Krem Soh Lyluait) was led to believe could be reached from Shnongrim village alone by following a Shaktiman trail down to a GPS waypoint that comes with a shoddy precision (EPE 11) of such a low quality that offense must be intended. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Shen 2003.02.22 Mss: Krem Soh Lyluait): Collapsed old fossil passage [note 1] with large exposed stal. Contains a c 20 m deep pot. CAVE FICTION: The GPS position places Krem Soh Lyluait in an area where it might connect to the downstream system of Krem –>Synrang Labit (nos. 1-2). Guided by instinct Sheen (2004.11.06 dated 27/02/04 personal correspondence) decided the other sinks in the locality [–>Wah Thylliang], Krem Khurisha, and Krem Soh Lyluait appear to focus into the same doline 68 m to S/E through abandoned deeply cut open rifts, typically 10 to 15 m deep and often only 1/2 m wide, to abandoned and choked sinks.n 2003.02.22 Mss: Krem Soh Lyluait): Collapsed old fossil passage [note 1] with large exposed stal.
