Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to a relatively large natural cave in wild and forested country (BROSSET 1962d: 585 table) which either is identical with or distinct from the –>Barapede Cave (note 1) near the same village of Talevadi / Talewadi. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for this cave named after the more or less near (sic!) village of Talevadi / Talewadi (note 2). SITUATION 1913: OLDFIELD (1913: 87) places the village of Talevadi (sic!) at an unspecified distance (along a route or in a direct line) of … twentyfive miles [40 km] north of Castle Rock (note 3). SITUATION 1914: At an unidentified location which lies in an unspecified spatial relation to the village of Talewadi at an unspecified distance of twenty miles [32 km] north of Castle Rock (PRATER 1914: 788 followed by DANIEL, MUNI & AKTHAR 1992). SITUATIN 1962: At an unspecified location somewhere in wild and forested country (BROSSET 1962c: 585 table). CAVE DESCRIPTIONS 1962: At Talewadi … the cave is wide and has ramifications [sic! probably for: small holes in the ceiling], … (BROSSET 1962b) but the next line (lines?) of my text is outside of the photocopy I hold. Talewadi Cave … Large natural cave in wild and forested country (BROSSET 1962c: 585 table). At Talewadi … the cave is large and has many ramifications … (BROSSET 1962c: 587-588). CAVE LIFE: BROSSET (1962c: 583-588) observed that natural caves seem to be the primitive haunt of Megaderma spasma Linaeus 1758 (Chiroptera: Megadermatidae): At Talewadi, Otomops wroughtoni [Oldfield 1913] and Rhinolophus lepidus cohabit with Megaderma spasma. But, as the cave is large and has many ramifications, the presence of these species together is not really significant concerning their social affinities.
