TARMIN LAKE CAVE

Description
An unspecified undercut or overhang (unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified length an estimated 3 m) represents either a secondary cave formed in a limestone bed or a primary cave behind a curtain of calcareous tufa (travertine) adjacent to a single gour pool (rimstone dam) in the open air (Brooks, S J 1997 Mss). SITUATION: At an unidentified location somewhere in a relatively large (sic!) bay of inexplicable size which happens to occur in the valley of an unidentified stream (no name mentioned) characterised as incising beds of sandstones and limestones in the Suleiman Range and east of Fort Munro (note 1), at a distance of 4 km along the road approximately east from the Saki Lak (note 2), and somewhere below (unidentified direction) and downstream (unidentified distance) from a Tarmin Lake (note 3). SITUATION 1977: On the western side of Fort Munro the country rock is largely well-bedded sandstone with traces of karst features. From Fort Munro to the East, te pass [Saki Lak] starts in sandstone but after 3 km limestone is met which becomes more massive as one descends the very dramatic gorge in which the pass lies. However, apart from a few rock shelters or undercuts (4 km down the pass), that are used as habitations, and other smaller ones that are not, there is no obvious signs of karst features. The limestone is very well jointed and bedded and in places very yellow in colour. Existing small blind valleys appear to be steps in waterfalls (Brooks, S J 1997 Mss).e pass [Saki Lak] starts in sandstone but after 3 km limestone is met which becomes more massive as one descends the very dramatic gorge in which the pass lies.
