Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An allegedly south-facing (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss) or, perhaps, north-facing, about 2 m wide and 5 m high cave entrance of unidentified shape, which was understood to be characterised by unidentified peculiarties, has been interpreted to represent the absurd combination of a seasonal resurgence (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc: evaluation) with a self-contradicting resurgence cave ending in a sink (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc: evaluation). ETYMOLOGY: The Synteng Khasi cave name -Krem Wah U Ngap- translates literally Cave [on the] Stream [of the] Bee or, if you prefer, as Bee Stream Cave (note 1). Furlong (2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc), however, mis-read -Krem Wah U Ngap- as if it were a -Krem Ngap [ka] Wah- and arrived at a confused water bee cave (sic!).SITUATION: The cave entrance to Krem Wah U Ngap lies at the bottom of a [relatively] large down-sloping field (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss) where the vegetation an unidentified kind thingumbob flourishes n a south-west facing escarpment rising from the orographically right bank of the Kopili River (26°15'N: 92°10'E). Somewhere around here, the cave entrance lies in unspecified spatial relations to all the prominent landmarks and known cave entrances in it's vicinity. APPROACH: To reach the cave entrance to Krem Wah U Ngap from the village of Kseh (St. Joseph church near 25°25’24.0”N: 92°35’32.9”E: circa 880 m) via the jetty (25°25'49.1”N: 92°36'15.1”E: 717 m), which lies on the orographically left (locally western) bank of the Kopili River (26°15'N: 92°10'E) and about 1.5 km in a direct line ESE from the village, cross the river by boat (ask a briew lieng, in short: 'riewlieng; boatman) for the opposite, orographically right (locally eastern) bank and … proceed [for an unspecified walking distance] on a footpath east to [an unspecified, so-called] the farm [at an unidentified GPS position]. About 300 m due south [of the farm and] at the bottom of a [relatively] large dwn-sloping field [of unidentified size] lies the [cave] entrance of what has been recorded as Krem Wah U Ngap (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc). CAVE DESCRIPTION: The allegedly south-facing (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss) or, perhaps, north-facing, about 2 m wide and 5 m high cave entrance is said to give access to some 90 m of unspecified cave passage, which, containing unspecified mud, sand (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss), eventually gives access to what was understood to represent an unspecified kind of a sink (note 2). TACKLE: None required (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc). PROSPECTS: Concerning some aspects of the known part of this cave, a first, preliminary topographical survey [once had been] finished (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc). CULTURAL HISTORY: To Imogen Furlong (2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc) is None known. CAVE LIFE: Arbenz, Thomas alias -Furlong, Imogen- (2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc) reports that somebody noticed in February 201 unspecified spiders, crickets (Aranea: conf. Arachnida; Gryllida: conf. Orthoptera) in unidentified conditions. unspecified spiders, crickets (Aranea: conf. Arachnida; Gryllida: conf. Orthoptera) in unidentified conditions.

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2011.02.19, trip 1: Mynlin Manar, in February 2011 the Kseh village headman, guided Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Sawdamut Kharbuki and Imogen Furlong to the cave entrance to Krem Wah U Ngap (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc). In other words: Brian, Imo and Saw went to Assam with Mynlin and were shown several cave entrances: Krem Um U Slar 1 & 2, Krem Wah U Ngap (Water Bee Cave) … [but out of these three they only] … explored and surveyed Krem Um U Slar 2 … (Arbenz, T. et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Saturday 19th Feb 2011). 2011.02.20, trip 2: Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Imogen Furlong and Barry J. Lawton … explored and surveyed the upstream crawls in Krem Um-U-Slar 2, which led to Um U Slar 1 entrance as expected. They then went to Krem Wah U Ngap and surveyed 90 m to another entrance (Arbenz, T. et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Sunday 20th Feb 2011). On this occasion, they surveyed selected aspects of the topography to conclusion aandonment of the survey progress (Furlong 2011.02.20 Mss: Krem Wah U Ngap.doc). Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
