The type location for Kitti-'s Hog-nosed Bat, the world's smallest mammal, discovered in 1973. In recent years increasing tourism has apparently caused the bats to completely abandon the site. The type locality for C. thonglongyai is described as "Cave near the Forestry Station, Ban Sai Yoke, Kanchanaburi, Thailand 14¦26'N, 98¦51'E" and the holotype was collected on 8 December 1973. Thonglongya's field notes call the type locality "Namtok Sai Yok".
