Description
A relatively »small« (sic!) and absolutely unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics), was said to lead to an estimated 60 m of nicely speleothem decorated cave passage corkscrewing down through proper sandstone beds and a choke before getting into the usual limestone. The expedition cavers Boycott, Jarratt, Kharpran Daly and Sandford achieved on to declare having "explored" this cave the spot which they visited but neither surveyed or mapped nor described (note 1). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what expedition cavers christened »Scorpion Cave« and disguised as a Pseudokhasi Krem Nianglartham (note 2). SITUATION: In a doline with unidentified dimensions and shape, which was found somewhere at an unspecified distance in an unidentified direction »next« to the –>Rift Pot entrance (25°09'56”N: 92°22'52”E) of Krem –>Umlawan. CAVE LIFE: Jarratt (1997.02.22 Mss: Cave Log) had cast a glance, perhaps full of malice or spite, on an estimated five inches (12.7 cm or so) long and »venomous looking« scorpion (conf. Araneae: Scorpionidae) lurking on the wall of a side passage.
NOTE 1: »Discretion being the better part of valour, we rapidly buggered off out« (Jarratt 1997.02.22 Mss: Cave Log)NOTE 2: ka 'ñianglarthám (Khasi; noun), a contraction of "ka khñiang" [small cold-blooded creature] + "la" + "rthám" [fast clinging], a scorpion (SINGH, N 1906: 141; SINGH, N 1920: 457; BLAH, E 2007: 264), a terrestrial arachnid with lobsterlike pincers and a poisonous sting at the end of its jointed tail, which it can hold curved over the back.
