Location

From the H4 north of Krabi town take the H6017 north, past Tham Sua, for about 7km before turning off to the left (north) on to minor roads that lead to the Phanom Bencha Mountain Resort. From the resort follow the track up the valley. After crossing the stream twice there is a footpath on the left that leads past a small reservoir and dam and then follows the stream on the true left bank. After about 150m look a small path down to stream level which then leads up to the cave entrance. There is a large concrete spirit house just outside the entrance. Martin Ellis - 02/11/2019

Description

Martin Ellis - 02/11/2019

From the resurgence entrance a short climb down leads to chest deep water and just enough airspace for your head. After a few metres the roof lifts to become walking size. The first obstacle is a boulder ruckle which is passed by climbing up on the right hand side and then through a hole on the right. Warning: some of the boulders are loose. Once past the boulder ruckle and back in the stream way it is fairly easy going for several hundred metres. One has to pass a spectacular large, white gour by climbing the ledges on the right and then descending back to stream level. There are also a couple of low and narrow sections created by the flowstone deposits. 900m from the entrance it is necessary to climb up a boulder slope on the left and then after a few metres descend a hole on the right back to the stream and a narrow duck in deep water. Following the duck the stream passage regains its former grandeur and continues as easy walking past some large gours on the left hand wall. 1.3km from the entrance a major Y junction is reached. The left hand branch ends after 100m at a very steep boulder slope that ascends to the upper entrance. Back at the Y junction the right hand branch also leads via an easier climb to the upper entrance. The right hand passage continues past the upper entrance as a low, wet crawl which has been explored for several hundred metres to a boulder choke.
