Description
A railway tunnel on the Lumding (N25°45': E93°10') - Silchar (N24°49': E92°48') line, formerly part of the Chittagong (Bangladesh) - Tinsukia (N27°30': E95°22') line, had been built between 1896 and 1908. CULTURAL HISTORY: Tunnel 37 caved in when the first train was passing through, burying more than 250 men. A new one was built a kilometre away and because water drips through it, people say that it weeps and it is thus called Ashrubanya (BHATTACHARJI 2002: 71).
