Maibong … has a small rock cut temple six metres high [note 1], built by a Kachari king in the mid-sixteenth century (BHATTACHARJI, R 2002: 70). ETYMOLOGY: Maibong (mai = paddy [note 2], bang = bundant [note 3]) (BHATTACHARJI 2002: 70). SITUATION: Somewhere at (or in the vicinity of) the village of Maibong (note 4) that lies at travelling distances of A) 163 km from Nowgong / Nagaon (note 5) along the National Highway NH54 approximately south-east towards Lumding (note 6) and another 50 km approximately south to Maiboug (Maibong); B) 73 km from Silchar (24°49'N: 92°48'N) along the National Highway NH54 approximately north to Haflong (25°11'N: 93°02'E) and another 40 km (or so) to Maiboug (Maibong).Maibong … has a small rock cut temple six metres high [note 1], built by a Kachari king in the mid-sixteenth century (BHATTACHARJI, R 2002: 70).
