Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 15/05/2016

A cave called »Krem Saida« (Raibok Patlong 1998.02.17) or »Krem Soida« (Carlyn Phyrngap 2003 February), which is situated at an unknown location somewhere near Tongseng (N25°19'28": E92°30'05” WGS84), was reported as early as 1998, and again in 2003, but has not yet been tracked down. ETYMOLOGY: Is this a Surprise Pot? The Khasi "sa" is (1) a prefix which means »to contract a disease; to be affected with«; (2) a suffix which means »peevishly; sulkily«; (3) it is a sign of future tense, denoting contingency; (4) it is used as an adverb with verbs in the past tense; (5) means »in the absence of any other better alternative« (SINGH, N 1906: 179). The Synteng "ida" and Khasi "ide" (SINGH, N 1906: 90) is the same as "ade" and is not only an exclamation or interjection used »to express surprise or approbation« but also an adverb meaning »maybe, perhaps« (SINGH, N 1906: 1).
