SIEJ, Shnongrim, 1st (Krem)

A perennial stream cave (Jarratt & Boycott 2008.02.23 Mss: Krem Siej 1) or small cave (Brown et al. 2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Friday 22th February). SITUATION 1: In an unknown spatial relation to the apparently nearby Krem –>Siej (Shnongrim) 2, which lies Just past cultivated area and Krem –>Siej (Shnongrim) 3, in doline in cultivated area.APPROACH: To reach the entrance of this cave, Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt (in: Jarratt & Boycott 2008.02.23 Mss: Krem Siej 1-) suggests to follow either footpath from Khaidong church [note 1] or footpath from N end of village [note 2] due west, past Lost World doline [note 3] and down the spur towards Wah Shikar. This is the path N of Wah Arlein (active stream valley). Just past cultivated area before final descent to Letein flood plain the cave can be found on the S side of the path. SITUATION 2: Brown et al. (2008 Mss: Meghalaya 2008 diary: Friday 22th February) place either the first or the second Krem Siej (Shnongrim) between Shnongrim an Khaidong. SITUATION 3: Brooks (undated Mss amendment to Jarratt & Boycott (2008.02.23 Mss: Krem Siej 1) surprises with placing the first Krem Siej (Shnongrim) in a Khaidong Area (note 1). SITUATION 4: The position of Krem Siej (Shnongrim) 1 falls on quadrangle 2.09 Shnongrim but Brown et al. (2008 Mss: Survey Summary) prefer to mislead and place cave: Krem Siej on map square: Krang (note 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Jarratt & Boycott (2008.02.23 Mss: Krem Siej 1): 20 m long [note 3], steeply inclined and very water worn pasage leading to mud and boulder choke. TACKLE: 5 m ladder (Jarratt & Boycott 2008.02.23 Mss). SPELEOMETRY: Anonymous (2008 Mss: Survey Summary) lists 22.02.08; map square: Krang; cave: Krem Siej; team: ARJ, JW, TB, RM, RD; 2008 survey: 18.44; total: 18.44; vertical: 14.94 (probably metres). CAVE LIFE: Jarratt & Boycott (2008.02.23 Mss: Krem Siej 1) note Heteropoda and probably refer to Arachnidae: Aranea: Sparassidae: conf. Heteropoda sp. Khaidong.
