Description
There is an apparently »narrow« but otherwise unspecified cave called »Krem Khim Myrsiang« (Monris Nongtdu 1998.02.26 personal communication). SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere on the Shnongrim Ridge. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi adjective "khim" means »narrow« (SINGH, N 1906: 32) and "u myrsiang" is one of the Khasi words for »a jackal, a fox« (SINGH, N 1906: 186; SINGH, N 1920: 191, 275; BLAH, E 2007: 110, 156). Such a Narrow Cave of the Jackal suggests the existence of a complementary ample, broad, extended, flar, capacious, open, shallow, or wide if not fat, plump or stout Fox Cave (note 1). Alternatively a "ka krem ki myrsiang" or »the cave [of] these jackals or foxes« might have been meant.
NOTE 1: Imaginable narrow-antonymous Khasi adjectives include"iár" (Khasi, adjective), pronounced ”[ba] eeár” (SINGH, N 1906: 87), »wide; open; extended« (SINGH, N 1906: 87); »ample; broad; capacious« (SINGH, N 1920: 17, 54, 59); »broad« (OLDHAM, T 1854 / 1984 appendix C: lxvi) "dapdoh eh” (Khasi, adjective) »corpulent« (SINGH, N 1920: 96) "dihe" (Khasi, adjective) »big and fat« (SINGH, N 1906: 70) "dihia" (Khasi, adjective) »fat and heavy« (SINGH, N 1906: 70) "diho" (Khasi, adjective) »short and fat« (SINGH, N 1906: 70) "lmam-lmam" or ”lmem-lmem" and "lmum-lmum” () »full of flesh; fatty« (SINGH, N 1906: 118) "jindong" (Khasi, adjective) »shallow; short« (SINGH, N 1906: 103) "jyndong” (Khasi, adjective) »shallow« (SINGH, N 1906: 107) "khleiñ” (Khasi, adjective) »fat« (SINGH, N 1920: 174) "lyngán" (Khasi, adjective) »short and stout (in stature)« (SINGH, N 1906: 121) "ba lyngdhang" (Khasi, adjective) »shallow and flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 122) "kyllûid" (Khasi, adjective), »plenty of space; spacious« (SINGH, N 1906: 53); »capacious« (SINGH, N 1920: 59) "kyran" (Khasi, adjective) »short but stout« (SINGH, N 1906: 60) "lymum lymum" (Khasi, adjective) »fat, corpulent« (SINGH, N 1906: 124) "lyngdhang" (Khasi, adjective) »shallow and flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 122) "lyngsnap" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsnej" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsnep" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsniap" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsnop" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsnap" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "lyngsnup" (Khasi, adjective) »flat« (SINGH, N 1906: 123) "pi-an" (Khasi, adjective) »short and stout« (SINGH, N 1906: 160) "pihia" (Khasi, adjective) »short and fat« (SINGH, N 1906: 160) "piho" (Khasi, adjective) »short and fat« (SINGH, N 1906: 160) "sa tdam" (Khasi, adjective) »short and stout« (SINGH, N 1906: 184) "sngâid" (Khasi, adjective) »fat, plump« (SINGH, N 1906: 187); »corpulent, fat, plump, stout« (SINGH, N 1920: 96, 174, 385, 499); »fat« (OLDHAM, T 1854 / 1984 appendix C: lxiii) "sngâid-diengthang” (SINGH, N 1906: 187) »very fat; applicable to a baby; the belief is that when a baby is unusually fat, it is likely to die« (SINGH, N 1906: 187) "supdok" (Khasi, adjective) »short and stout« (SINGH, N 1906: 214) "syndam" (Khasi, adjective) »flat, low, depressed, well beaten« (SINGH, N 1906: 216).
