Description
A railway tunnel on the Lumding (N25°45': E093°10') - Silchar (N24°49': E092°48') line, formerly part of the Chittagong- Tinsukia line (note 1), had been built between 1896 and 1908. BHATTACHARJI (2002: 71) narrates how the most enthralling and longest tunnel is the Mahur [note 2]. Of its length of 258 metres the first 145 from the south have a gradient of one metre in thirty.
