Description
One of Tibets most famous cave sites is the steep sided, cave riddled Yerpa rock near Sera , north-east of Lhasa. The site has been used as a hermitage for a long time, eg. by the Indian Buddhist saint and reformator Atisha (AtÏsha), who was born in AD 925.WADDELL (1991: 34-35): Pal-dorje, having assasinated Lang Darma in about 899, took hide in one of the caves. PRICE (1988a: 16): North of the town [Lhasa] are hermit caves at Sera monastery.
