Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A cave entrance without specified shape or size gives access to a pothole with a shaft, pit, pitch, and so on, which drops an estimated 27 m down into the dry relic of a cave passage with speleothems or very white and dry flowstone (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Friday 20th) and another two pitches (20 m, 37 m) which correspond to an aven in a so-called drafting (sic!) passage in the –>Easy Bird Cave (also: Sim Suk Cave). ETYMOLOGY: No original, locally known name has been identified for this cave entrance, which Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns decided not only to christen Chief Bird Cave (note 1) but also cared to see it khasificationated into a -phoren- (apparently foreignish) sounding and alienated Krem Sim Syiem (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Friday 20th). SITUATION 1 (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Friday 20th): In an unspecified spatial relation not far from Sim Suk (i.e. –>Easy Bird Cave). CAVE DESCRIPTION (Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns in Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss: Diary 2009.doc): A 27 m pitch descends to a wide and allegedly fossil (sic!) but more likely a relic, and partly collapsed passage which was covered with very white and dry flowstone. A drafting passage [note 2] leads to a 22 m pitch. (2009.02.20). A … 2nd (20 m) and the 3rd shaft (37 m) which is the aven seen from the bottom by the team who explored the drafting [draughting] passage in Easy Bird (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss -Diary 2009.doc- Saturday 21st). Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2009.02.20, trip 1: Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns, Peter Ludwig, Sujan Shubba, and Karma Choki Bhutia … went to Krem Sim Syiem, a shaft not far from Sim Suk [i.e. –>Easy Bird Cave]. They hope to connect it with the drafting passage on the right side of the big passage in Sim Suk. A 27m pitch was descended. They reached a wide fossil, collapsed passage which was covered with very white and dry flowstone. A drafting passage was followed until a 22 m pitch. Because of a flat battery they could not drill a second hole. … 145.67 m surveyed (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Friday 20th). 2009.02.21, trip 2: Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns, Gregory D. Diengdoh, and Sujan Shubba … rigged the 2nd (20 m) and the 3rd shaft (37 m) which is the aven seen from the bottom by the team who explored the drafting [draughting] passage in Easy Bird. The connection is done. They pushed their visit until the main passage of Easy Bird. A pleasant trip in beautiful big passages and ptches. The new part of the cave was surveyed. After derigging the cave they went back to camp. 72.09 m surveyed (Brooks, S J et al. 2009.02 Mss 'Diary 2009.doc' Saturday 21st). Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
